  1. it could be several things.

    possibilities are

    bad cable modem

    bad network card

    bad network cable

  2. cable is connected directly from back of modem?

You probably have a "packet loss" issue. You're constantly sending/receiving pieces of information (packets) and because of a connection issue, you're losing some along the way.

I would call Cox and have them come out and take a look at it. It could be something with the cable connections, the modem, or your PC. Hopefully its one of the first options.

  3. well you could blame it on COX or the linksys router. Hard to say...

  4. Linksys modem or router?

I assume it's a router, call Linksys and see if they can help you.  Since it connects for a while, I'd assume the cables are ok but it's worth checking.

Also, call Cox and ask them to check the modem signal levels (they can do that remotely while you're on the phone) - I have Cox when I'm at college and had a line filter get wet and go bad, when they came out to replace that the signal to the modem went up and fixed my disconnect problem.

Also, make sure the modem/router has enough ventelation on as many sides as you can - maybe set it at an angle so it has ventelation on the top, bottom, and 3 sides.  Overheating can cause resets, and disconnects.

BEWARE: Unless Cox set up the network, they will disconnect all but one computer when they come out.  The TOS says it costs $9 extra per month for every extra computer/game system you want to connect and more if you want wireless or a home-network.  You get around this by buying your own router and setting it up yourself, but the cost is Cox won't help you fix the router problems (hence why you call Linksys for help with the router).

If the tech is nice (usually are for me) they may work with you to troubleshoot through your router but they don't have to - so be prepared for that and be very polite and graceous if they do go the extra length.  If they make it work with one wired computer, they've fulfilled their end of the agreement and that's all they *have* to do.

  5. Try turning off all firewall programs including Windows built in stuff.

  6. idk call ur internet people
