I get thunderstorms pretty often in Mass. And whenever i do get them i lose my internet connection. It really ticks me off. Why does this happen?

I have Verizon high speed DSL and it's hooked up to the phone cord.

  1. r u serious? that's the dumbest question i've seen on yahoo so far, u know if you think about it real hard thunderstorms and forms of communication dont go so well

  2. Do you also lose your connection when it rains?  If so, the water somewhere may be causing some short-circuit or causing signal degradation or additional noise.

Does your connection drop when there's just lightning? (and then return a few seconds later)

If it's only a quick blip when there's a lightning strike, your lines may be picking up electronic interference / noise at that time.

There are sometimes additional filters you can place between your line and modem that attempts to cut out additional signals and noise.

  3. it happens to me all the time too...

I thought it was bcz im using a wireless connection....

if your modem is hooked up, then i guess its just problems with the network's stability. =.=  we cant do much about it.. maybe change to another provider!?  lol

  4. Probably lightning has knocked out the power somewhere.
