  1. The box contributes to the sound quality and if u want subs that boom, u would want to get a ported sub enclosure because it makes the bass louder than a sealed box.

  2. because if you dont have a box there wont be any compression and therefore there will be no bump or boom

  3. the box is air tight and no sound can escape it also makes it sound better

you can actually do it w/out a box but it sounds like c**p

  4. as in what you buy it in or the box that keeps the boom in and blasts it out ?

well in any case the box is for the structure of the sound it creates

  5. The subwoofer box, or enclosure, is a major part of the sound system.  It is often one of the most overlooked parts, however.  A cheap sub in a properly built enclosure will outperform a high end sub in an enclosure not suited for it.  It is also important to choose the right enclosure otherwise you can seriously damage you sub.

The type and specs of the enclosure effect the overall sound of the sub.  Depending on what type of enclosure (sealed, ported, bandpass, etc) you use and what the specs are on it (volume, tuning frequency (if ported)) will greatly change the sound of the sub.  The enclosure can also be designed specifically for a certain sound or around the type of music you listen to.  This can enhance the overall sound of your system as well.  Since everyone has a different opinion on what sounds good it is important to have an enclosure that will meet the goal you want for the sound of the sub.

Some subs do not need an enclosure though.  This is called "free air" or "infinite baffle".  This is not usually recommended by most sub manufacturers.  It also usually results in poor sound from the sub.  Playing a sub that is not recommended for this application can damage the sub.

There is much more to the subwoofer enclosure then there may seems at first.  What you need to know is what to look for.  You should look at the manufacturer recommendations for a subwoofer enclosure.  They will give you the type(s) of enclosure to use for the best sound as well as the specs of the enclosure.  Sticking to these specs will be your best bet.  Otherwise having an enclosure custom designed and made to fit you and your subs needs will be your best option.

    Good Luck!!!

  6. A box is designed to capture the sound waves generated from the subs to  one designated area all at once creating and more focus sound. This also makes it sound it louder, clearer and crisper.Boxes also alow one to choose the direction of sound Or speaker placement of your choice persay

  7. The box dictates the tuning, frequency response, and SPL of the sub.  Most subs need a box to work, and the box tuning and size will vary depending on the car, install, and goals.  There are some subs, such as the Elemental Designs Kv and Ov subs as well as some Image Dynamic subs that work great mounted without a box in an infinite baffle setup, I use a 16Ov.2 in an IB setup in my accord an it sounds terrific.

  8. Same reason why your house speakers are in an enlosure.  Make sense?
