Question:

Why do i need a round trip ticket to chile?

im a u.s. citizen i live in chile came recently to u.s with a one way ticket now i want to travel back to chile the same way i have a visa for one year and married to a chilean, why would the airport hassle to have a round trip ticket if i have a purpose in chile to be there?

  1. You were allowed to by the one-way ticket to the US because you are a citizen. The airlines need proof of return travel for citizens traveling outside of the US, however, if you have the documentation to prove that you have the right to residence in Chile you should have been able to purchase the ticket.

    Perhaps you should try again and if you get the same answer, insist on speaking to a supervisor. The airlines have that kind of information available to them, but some agents are too lazy to actually look it up. Not slamming the agents, there are plenty of good ones that do their job correctly, but you may have just come across one of those not interested in being helpful.
