Why do i suck at tennis?

I know it sounds negative to use the word suck but I lost to this girl today that I beat once before. I worked pretty hard to get better but I ended up losing to this girl, maybe she got better as well but I have a feeling that she probably didn't work as hard as I did. My game is at this stage where I feel that I am holding back from hitting stronger shots because I don't want the ball to go long. At the same time, if i hold back too much I tend to not hit too well and it often goes right down the middle to my opponent, not moving them around. I feel stuck in between hitting too strong, but risking going out with not enough top spin and not hitting strong enough, where the ball often goes down the middle. I don't know what to do, I feel frustrated because I feel that I lose to people that I have better strokes than (at least when I'm just hitting around and not in a game) please let me know if you have any suggestions out there!

  1. I'm a girl who beats a  lot of boys. Maybe she works at it harder than you. Just cause she a girl doesn't mean she cant be better than you

  2. Maybe she's like me? I have this friend named Mario. He's played ever since he was 6 and is going to Dallas tomarrow for tournamenting. I want to beat him, and in the future, I will. Maybe she's like that? Wanting to beat you and all? Honestly, you can't say that you don't think that she was trying as hard as you, because unlike you, she has someone that she wants to beat, which draws out more energy to practice. Maybe it's just me, or maybe you need to practice a little more and man it up a little. Boys get beaten by girls all the time, you're just another one. No big deal.

  3. Maybe you need more practice.

I personally suck at tennis too. Lol. [:

I'm sure you're good at tennis! Maybe you were just a little frustrated. Next time relax more, and practice more too. =]

  4. The reason you "suck," is you're thinking too much.  Just go out, have fun and hit the ball, keep it in play, and don't think

  5. Other people aren't static.  They play too.  In fact, I used to able to slaughter one of my first tennis buddies but now he's one of the best players I know.

Anyways, don't just hit the ball back.  Think about your shots.  I like to divide the court up into six boxes (top left/mid/right, and bottom left/mid/right).  Concerning consistency, simply practice more and try applying more topspin to your shots.  You seem like a baseliner that tries to go for flashy shots (my problem).  A lot of people simply backboard balls back at you and wait for you to mess up.  Just practice with consistency in mind, but practice like you play.

  6. Relax. You are probably stressed out. And also, Tennis is a very hard sport to master. You need to train frequently to be at the best of your game. Good luck

  7. Some people are just better at doing stuff than other people.  I am sure you can do something better than this other girl.It may just not be tennis!

  8. Everyone is going to win and everyone is going to lose. Don't worry about it too much. Use it as determination to get better and beat her next time. Also, don't get down on yourself...that's the start to losing.

    Best of Luck.

  9. You can't just go in a match and "hit balls."

You have to give your brain a mental workout as well.

Find their weaknesses. As Brad Gilbert says" Maximize their weaknesses and minimize their strengths,"

Everyone has a weaker aspect in their game.

Either their backhand is weak, they can't run, not good with high balls ect..

Change your game up when you're losing. And always remember to have "happy feet."
