  1. No you're not.

Trever T: You must be someone who never used Ubuntu. Linux in the past is a geek's tool, nowadays, I dare say it is easier to use than Vista. Linux installations in the past is a full day working in terminal/command prompt, nowadays with the Live CD, you could get your first taste of Ubuntu in 5 minutes after inserting the CD and get Ubuntu permanently installed in 15 minutes or less (Windows couldn't beat THAT, making a mere Live Windows CD takes a lot of hackery, making Live Ubuntu CD that can install itself is a matter of burning the right ISO). Linux users, in the past, must be a command-line lover, nowadays most if not all programs in Linux have a graphical interface and nearly all aspects of Linux itself can be tweaked from the GUI.

All that and you've got a lot of copy-paste tutorials in the Internet (due to Windows being so much GUI-oriented, in windows you'll get a lot of click-here, click-there tutorial that more often than not are confusing without an accompanying image), just open a terminal and copy paste the tutorial (although make sure you understand what the commands do, since some evil users may post a tutorial to enter this in terminal: "rm -rf /" [1]).

All that and you got a multiple desktop without installing any more programs. In Windows, you've got to install third party programs that are a relative to slowdown and crashing to get multiple desktop, not in Linux. And the terminal and shells... command prompt could NEVER beat that. Not to mention thousands of free and (mostly) good programs that are installable without even touching the browser or google, by using the add/remove program or synaptics. Last but not least and definitely not the REAL last, Linux is a programmer's heaven.

[1] WARNING: Don't enter that in your terminal without knowing what it does: "deleting all files in your root directory recursively (-r) and without asking you for permission on protected files (-f)"

  2. Ubuntu is much better than vista, Ubuntu is virus free and free.

So your laptop will cost less.

  3. yes

If you are geek enough to run linux and get and keep everything working, good on you but most normal people would be lost, thats where microsoft comes in

This question seems more of a blog than a question not what yahoo answers is for

  4. Ubuntu is better then Vista - and OS X Leopard is better then Ubuntu. I use both.
