Why do insects die when they get wet? And if they do what happens when it rains?

  1. Insects have a different way of breathing than humans do. They have a lot of tracheae in a large system, and if any of these inhale water, they will start to drown quickly. In a rainstorm, however, most bugs will either take cover, or dodge the drops, incredible as it may sound, and fly for cover.
