Japan has become so industious that they don't have enough room to grow rice for everyone in the country so they buy a majority or their rice from the U.S.

They mixed vinegar with rice and stored fish with it. People began to eat it and it became a delicatessy. 'Sushi' comes from the rice, not the fish. Dried nori (seaweed) was added later.
