  1. It's from the commandment which says not to cut the "corners of one's beard" (Lev. 19:27). This has been interpreted to mean to leave the sideburns long. The long sidelocks are called "peyot" or "peyyot" or "payyot" in Hebrew.

  2. This is a completely ignorant question. Not ALL people in one religion have the same haircut. GROW UP.

  3. you cant generalize a whole group like that, quit being so stereotypical! everyone is different.

    and your link didnt work..

  4. uhhh sorry but it doesn't look like the picture worked!

  5. That's a bit racist question.

    Im jewish.

    My cousins dont have it..

    Jeez

  6. The picture link you posted isn't working, but I've seen some of those 'weird' haircuts.  They do it for one of two reasons:

    * It's based on a literal interpretation of certain passages in the Torah about grooming and hairstyles; and/or

    * It's traditional within their community.

Frankly I don't find them any more 'weird' than cornrows, dreadlocks, or oddly colored highlights.

Read the answers below referring to the First Testament!

There is a reason for it. NOt all Jewish people have that hair cut. Only the ultra religious!
