Why do kidnapped white kids get global news coverage?

Do you ever see a missing black girl getting intense news coverage? LOL. I hope im not being racist.

Let's not start on this racial divide - I seem to recall huge coverage given recently to black pregnant girl whose baby was stolen, missing latino woman etc.  I think people get as much coverage as what the papers think they can sell - everyone is afraid of having the child stolen - maybe white kids get stolen more?  (maybe the parents are less attentive?)

Sorry I am playing devil's advocate - I took a lot of sociology.  I hope you are wrong on this as every child is important regardless of race, creed etc.  We need to place a higher value on them and these awful stories will stop appearing.

No, you're not being racist.  I'm a middle class white man who studied media in college, and Caucasion kids DOMINATE the media globally.  Just a reflection of society I guess.  

We focus on the tragedy of the whites (missing cute girls, usually) and the troubles of the blacks (OJ, who apparently was the only man in this country ever to go on trial for murder).

However, it's starting to shift.  I live in Kansas City, and the most news coverage I've ever seen was about the decapitated body of an unidentified little black girl we named 'Precious Doe':

good point. I guess there are alot of missing black girls but they don't get alot of news coverage. Instead the CNN report of the day is that there is new baby panda at the San Diagio Zoo named Ming-Ming!
