  1. because of the natural tilt of the earth being 23.5 degrees off axis.  the earths tilt creates an uneven solar target


  2. at higher latitudes (nearer to the poles) the sun's ray strike earth's surface at an angle, and the same amout of sunlight is spread over a large area. the sun's ray also travel for a longer distance befoe reaching these areas.

    nearer to the equator, the same amount of sun's ray are concentrated over a smaller region and these area receive higher amount of solar energy.

    (you can experimenting using a torch and a ball)

    The sun shines its rays in straight lines. The rays enter the atmosphere and are diffused and reflected by the atmosphere. The rays closer to the equator travel less distance through the atmosphere than they do for locations further away form the equator and so impart more energy to the earths surface.

When the northern hemisphere is closer to the sun, the distance of the sun's rays are closer so it has a higher intensity. Because the southern hemisphere is farther away from the sun, the distance the sun's rays needs to travel is longer so the intensity of the rays are stronger. It is the exact opposite when the southern hemisphere is closer to the sun.

    In other terms: In general, climates of locations near the equator are warmer than climates of areas far from the equator. The reason is that the sun’s rays hit Earth’s surface most directly at the equator. At the poles, the same amount of solar radiation is spread over a larger area, and therefore brings less warmth.
