Question:

Why do law enforcement wear their badge on the left side?? whats the meaning behind it???

I cant seem to find the answer anywhere...need some help.

  1. Probably because it is over the heart there. Im not sure either, My grandfather was a police officer though


  2. It is for the heart. They take a solem oath to protect the public and their shield or badge protects their heart from harm.

  3. Actually, it's not a badge, it's a symbolic shield and it's to protect the body, so to speak.

  4. Maybe because the badge could potentially stop a bullet from hitting the heart.

  8. It may be because shields were carried by the left arm - and as they became "badges of office" having them close to the heart is a symbol of the seriousness of their oath.

    (Police badges are still referred to as "shields")
