Why do left handed batters' swings look so much better than right handers swings?

it seems like just about every left has a sweet swing, that has great mechanics and is just absolutely smooth and grooved. when compared to a right handed swing the left handed swing almost always looks better (there are a few exceptions)

name the guys with the sweetest looking swings and they are most likely lefty: griffey jr., bonds, hamilton, berkman from the left side, ryan sweeney and carlos gonzales on the a's and plenty more

do you agree lefty swings look better?

  1. I think it's because the 1st base line is towards the right rather than the left. Lefties can lean over to the 1st base side a little more. They can go through their entire swinging motion. Righties can't do that. They are taught shorter, more compact swings so they can get out of the box faster. All the players you named have big and free swings, with exception to Bonds. He has a compact swing. Give what I just said some thought.

  2. Because you see right hand swing too many times and you find it boring.

The best hitters in the both league are right handed. (Albert and Alex)

  3. Because most pitcures are right handed!

  4. I think the reason lefties look smoother at the plate is because the mometum of their swing carries them toward 1st base. Right-handed batters momentum carries them toward 3rd base which means they must reset themselves before starting toward 1st.

  5. well in cricket it is said that a lefty batter or bowler looks more stylish and smoother because its unusual; ever is used to seeing the right handed....so the left hander looks much more different and people associate that with a better looking swing or whatnot.

    Its in the psychology

  6. im not sure that left handed hitters have a better swing (im right handed fielder  bat left from the plate)

over all there are more right handed pitchers   we see the ball at a much different perspective  we see the ball longer  than right handed hitters  and of course it spins in the opposite dirrection for us

Watch a left handed hitter face a left handed pitcher and the results are quite the opposite   And the right handed hitter sees the ball longer etc  and  the big boys will Park it every time

I do suggest  at the very least   all young ball players should learn to switch hit   and   hit from the  left side as much as possible  its also a much quicker start towards the bag   because the body is turning that direcation    almost like coming out of the starating blocks

Right handed hitters have to completly turn back around

makes a big difference  on the avg.

  7. I agree lefty swings look better. My fav is 1B Adrian Gonzalez. Left handed batters can move their front foot more out of the box to first base. Which provides a bigger swing and they can have a jump to first. Righties have to step with their front foot forward and "through" the ball. (if they don't or they would be leaning toward third, providing a slow jump to first base.) Righties provide a shorter stroke.

  8. hmm i'm not much of a baseball fan but I heard a long time ago that leftys are better natural athletes cuz of something to do with physical activity and the brain sides.  Also I know some pitchers have a lot of trouble with leftys.
