Why do lemurs jump off cliffs?

    Anyway, when conditions get too crowded lemmings may jump off cliffs and try to swim to a new shore. Sometimes they make it, sometimes they don't.

  3. Why not? Hahah, most likely for the same reason humans sky dive.

  4. You're thinking of lemmings, not lemurs. And the honest-to-goodness answer is that they don't, actually. Sometimes, during migration, some lemmings will _fall_ off of cliffs, accidentally, but the idea of them charging suicidally en-masse off a cliff is a myth. A myth that was, unfortunately, perpetuated by the 1959 Disney nature documentary in which the film crew actually herded lemmings off a cliff to get footage of them jumping into the sea.
