Question:

Why do leopard gecko tails, look like somebody colored on them with orange high lighter in some spots?

I have a leopard gecko, and I thought, mabye they did that at the store, but then I looked at pictures of leopard geckos, and saw a lot of that.

  1. because they have a "carrot tail" gene in them :D


  2. if more than 15% of their tail is orange it qualifies them to be called a carrot tail. this is to do with their morph. people are breeding allsorts of morphs nowadays not just the normal spotty geckos

  3. its just genetics, some leopard geckos dont have that gene. Mine doesnt. at least not on her tail.

  5. Because that is their natural colouration, however breeders have now taken these characteristics to the extreme and some have no spots, are all white have entirely orange tails, are all orange etc. and they are called "morphs"

  6. its all part of survival in the wild, there tails is how they survive, and they are different kind of leopard geckos for different places in where they live. that despcription sounds like a carrot tail tangerine leopard gecko. Many leopard geckos are also different because of the breeders, so if the breeder breeds a normal with a hybino-tangerine, you would get something in between those to geckos.
