  1. It's a way of making the company look good - by having lots of houses on their site makes them look like "they know whatthey are doing". Its also a good way of advertising their company & showing people what they have done.

If someone likes one of these houses that is already sold - and phone up - its also a way of pulling in customers to choose their company - they may want to make an oappointmentwith you / the persons house it is may have a deal with the company - to recommend them & to also tempt new buyers. Most people will continue browsing their site for a similar house than the one displayed.

In my opinion they sshouldn'tbe allowed to do it - its false advertising - just another way of making money.

  2. It shows off how successful they are at selling/letting houses by showing successes.  It also gives a buyer/tenant a chance to see what kind of properties they usually have

  3. It's like an advert to their site. Even if the house is no longer available, most people will look around on their site for an alternative.

  4. Because a lot of companies don't mix their intranet with the internet for security, so when they update their system to tell them the property has been let they then have to go to another system to update the website, usually they leave this routine maintenance to the end of the day.  It is more secure this way as it prevents either people from hacking in, or employees wasting time on the internet, or passing information on through e-mail systems.  I used to work in a HR dept for a supermarket and the job site did exactly the same thing, also anyone applying online all their details were printed out and retyped in again into our own secure system.  It's mainly to ensure data protection act is followed at all times - after all you wouldn't want to rent a big house, and then have some hacker break into the letting agents computer and find out your credit card details and everything would you?
