Question:

Why do liberals do this? Why do conservatives do that?

Why are Republicans always a certain way? And how come all Democrats support a particular thing? How come all the Red States are filled with those kind of people? Why are people in the Blue states always such fill in the blanks?

And how come all White people so prejudiced against a certain race? How come all Black people like a certain type of music and eat certain kinds of food? How come Asian people are so industrious when it comes to this and that? And Latinos and blah blah blah? And what's this I'm hearing about g*y people and big pink feather boas?

Honestly, I look at some of the posts on this site and I have to wonder if a thought has ever entered some people's heads.

And the responses, oh so clever. "Well, huh huh, maybe a thought has never enturd YOR head."

And that's just how they would spell that, too.

I don't know if it is comical or tragic how far our society has fallen if this is the level of discourse the average person is capable of. Shameful...

  1. Just communication problems.

  2. In the immortal words of Rodney King:

"Can't we all just get along?"

I think the main problem is that YA is loaded with kids that think it's a chat room.  Nothing against kids, but they just don't have any real experience in the world yet.  It shows in their Q and A.  I think most of them just say stupid things to get 2 points and get a rise out of people.

  3. I'm totally ripping this off as my own stale stand-up comedy premise.  It will kill at the Chucklehut.

  4. Both are annoying... .

  5. Their not they don't they aren't they don't they aren't they aren't they aren't they don't they aren't they don't not sure I agree with you and you misspelled thought if you were hoping to copy them.

  6. Not everyone in a certain group does a certain thing.  It just seems like that because that is the image that is popularized.

There are lots of whites with soul.

There are lots of blacks who don't excel at sports or have rhythm.

There are lots of g**s with no style.

There are lots of lazy Asians.

You just don't hear about them- that sort of story does not make good copy.

  7. The trick--and I haven't completely grasped it myself--is to pick out the reasonable people from amidst all the biased, blind extremists. They really are there.

They may only ask one good question out of twenty accusatory ones thrown around by the trolls. In fact, the reasonable people tend to answer far more questions than they ask, because a) when reasonable people ask a question, it's because they really want an answer, as opposed to a platform, and b) they don't want to ask the same dumb questions that others have ten times/day--we know how to use the Y!A search feature for previous versions of the question.

They may only provide one smart answer out of every ten (reasonable people answer more than they ask).

They may get a lot of thumbs down from the reactives who hit that button just because the answerer used a word like "feminism" or a name like "Clinton" or "Reagan."

But they're out there. Try not to let the extremists drown them out completely.

I look at Y!A as good practice in keeping "your head when those about you / are losing theirs and blaming it on you."* Which isn't a bad skill to develop if we're going to talk politics, anyway. It's NEVER had a great reputation. Just look at some quotes by John Adams.

  8. I'm pretty sure the white/black thing comes from some blacks still mad because some whites owned some blacks over a 100 years ago...go figure..that's a long dead issue...repubs generally figure dems want to increase taxes and give it away to things like midnight basketball and the idea of taking more taxes gets us upset...go figure....

  9. This is the way I see it.  Personally, I am a Republican.  But I have more respect for a Democrat who stands behind his views than for either a Republican or Democrat who flip flops on issues just to gain a few more votes.  We are lucky enough to have the privelege in this country to not only vote, but to believe in whoever or whatever we want to believe in.  If someone has exactly the opposite views that I do, I still respect them as much as my fellow Republicans.  Both sides think they have the answers, both sides have good and bad points; you just need to find which side most of your beliefs lie in.    As for prejudice, I blame that on ignorance and hatred.  As for g**s, being a Republican I'm supposed to be against it because they say the bible says blah blah blah...., but it is not my job to judge other people.  The bibles says alot of stuff, but you can't just pick and choose which passages suit you.  I'm pretty sure the bible says we are not supposed to hate, but isn't that what prejudice is?  How come black people like certain types of music and eat certain types of food?  I don't think it has anything to do with their skin color.  I think it's environment.  The way we all tend to like certain foods/music because that is what we grew up on.  Isn't mama's cooking better than anyone elses?  I think Asian people are so industrious because their school systems are so advanced.  That was alot of answers, I hope some of them are what you were looking for.

  10. The internet has an enormous potential to educate people, and give them a forum to add to the public debate.  And yet, I've just spent the last hour giving people relationship advice for truly dumbass questions.

Hang-on, isn't yahoo owned by Rupert Murdoch? Now there's a guy who's adding to the fair and balanced public discourse.

I guess I'll search for the truth on www.conservapedia.org

  11. Sounds diverse to me

Do you want everyone in lock step with whatever you "feel" is right

WE are all different, but tend to join the side that represents our views the best

That's how it is and has been for over 200 years find something else to whine about
