Why do liberals not want to punish child rapist?

why do they not want a minimum mandatory for rapist? eight states, all blue, do not want to pass jessica's law,why?

I believe this isn't about liberal its about people who dont understand what its like to be raped. I think if they had their daughters raped they would do whats right. And to whoever   said rapist get severe punishment already you're wrong, My dad did it to me for 15 years and got one year in jail. That's not severe. I have to live with it the rest of my life he shouldn't have his. We need to look at the laws and get them changed. It is not cruel punishment to kill a rapist (not a statutory rapist). you can kill a man who killed someone but you cant kill a man who causes a lifetime of trauma on someone? Makes no sense.

When I first heard about  Jessica's law not passing I was outraged. Rapists can't be rehabilitated. They deserve to die ruining poor babies lives, and scarring them for the rest of their lives. Those people make me sick. You know what if Jessica's law had passed I would  love to watch the rapist die.

They believe everyone can be rehabilitated, or that it was some "social condition" that caused them to be a "victim" and rape someone. Ridiculous.

mandatory sentencing laws do not take into account other circumstances and possible flimsy evidence.

Well, some conservative states wanted to enact the death penalty on child rapists until the Supreme Court said it was unacceptable.  They said that only murderers should be subjected to it.  Child rapists do get punished severly anyway.  

But, about Jessica's Law.  Any violators have to go to jail for 25 years and have to wear a GPS unit for the rest of their lives.  Personally, I think the law is a bit strict.  This kind of punishment just seems like paranoia to me.

I believe that violators should go jail for it, but that they should only have to wear a gps unit if they violate the law again after serving their prison sentence.  I do live in a democrat state that has this law though (CA).

It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. I think it is more related to how people abuse these laws. For example, they would be used against guys who turn 18 when their girlfriends are still 17. This has happened many times. Do you think a guy should go to prison and be called a rapist for the rest of his life just because he didn't dump his girlfriend the day before his birthday?
