  1. in 40 years, when theres nothing left to drill, what do you think will happen to prices then?

  2. Easy- because oil won't be around forever.

  3. There are all sorts of alternative energy.

Back in the year 1891 a man named William Morrison produced the first electric car.  That was in 1891!  By the 1920s gas cars were pushing the electric car from the production lines, and  we started an addicition.  The point being if they could make a can in 1891 that was electric, there is NO reason that we can not have them in full production here, now!  To power these electric cars we can use the wind power that is easily generated.  In the ens newswire article sited below they say

"American wind farms will generate an estimated           48       billion kilowatt-hours of wind energy in 2008, just over    one percent of U.S. electricity supply, powering the        equivalent of over 4.5 million homes"

That is a great start, but we can do more.  More people that live in a sunny climate should have solar panels on their rooftops! Why wouldn't you want free energy!

  4. alt. energy is ready right now...it just needs implementation

  5. Its not a win win by drilling. We would be drilling to get more of a resource that is a) nonrenewable b) pollutes the environment and c) involves having to desecrate the environment even more. And there are jobs in renewable energy too with much more lasting potential because its resources will still be around in hundreds of years. So if by "win win"  you mean "harmful short term solution to a dire long term problem" then yeah, it's a win win alright.

  6. i am a stay at home mom of 3 children, a recycler, and I love the freedoms that we have in this country.  Obviously, we can see with this and other forums, we are able to express ourselves freely and we can disagree with our government and people of different opinions and avoid punishment for it!  I am a conservative and as such i believe that the role of government, as laid out by our constitution, is to defend its people and our freedoms.  It is OUR government. by the people, for the people, and of the people.   As a compassionate conservative, i also am against "socialism".   I believe that free people should be strong and independent and responsible for themselves and their immediate families. The government shouldn't have to take care of us by paying our bills.  This is directly opposite of capitalism and the free market.  These are the principles that guide my opinion on this subject.  Now, as far as i am concerned, this whole fuel issue is simple economics.  supply and demand people!  It is not because of evil fuel companies and greedy investors.  the reason we have gotten into this mess is because of liberal special interest groups (mostly environmentalists) that have prevented our private citizens to use our very own resources and talent in this country for the last 30 years.  i am not a fan of conspiracy theories.  these are simply the facts!   We are now at the mercy of other countries for a commodity that we NEED to live and function and it is effecting our entire economy.   we should be independent of other nations and be able take care of ourselves.  we have all the resources we need right here!  And if liberals really want to keep it clean, they can keep the american companies in line. (Liberals have no control over how much the saudi's are polluting the earth - so if it's so important to them, keep it at home where they can keep a close eye on it!)  This is wrong that our "supply and demand" is linked to volatile nations full of terrorism and corruption.  business has enough corruption.  now our hands have been tied by ourselves through lousy legislation by electing liberal democrats for all these years.  and the republicans haven't been able get things changed.  The U.S. should be the ones with all the cards in its hands.  i hate paying out the nose for gasoline, but i am glad the finger is finally getting pointed at the right people and that something might actually be done about it because the people in this country want to be able to put food on the table.  i reduce, reuse, recycle, and don't litter, but we simple need to be able to drill and refine more of our own oil.  if you look at the facts, things like ethanol drive up food prices (corn, feed, chicken, eggs, beef, and milk to name a few).  plus farmers are subsidized by the government (that's taxpayers - you and your neighbors!!)  Wind and solar energy just aren't efficient enough to be profitable business ventures and are only afforded by the weathly.   A 17 year old kid in my neighborhood went to the national science fair in May with a project about using hydrogen to power cars and he hardly even got a nod.  if liberals want to take care of the earth as they claim, then they should stop spending all there money on the democrats and their campaigns and they should put their money where their mouth is and invest in private companies to the get renewable energy sources up and running.  Things that really work and the average family can afford.  then we can be clean and independent!

  7. It's the $5.00 Starbux Coffee numbing their thoughts.

At that price......Maybe we should all drill for coffee.

  8. aside from political affiliation, those who oppose drilling beleive that it will only curtail alternative energy efforts and delay the problem not solve it. Those who favor it believe that oil is with us to stay for a long time and drilling would help slashing prices.

  9. First, Republicans are wrong.  Drilling will NOT lower prices, EVER.

Second.  They are just using MORE of a resource that we shouldn't be using.

There are plenty of alternatives.  But ignorant people just don't want to switch.

  10. the question should be how high are alternative energy backers going to drive up the cost of crops so that everything else cost more. All you biofuel junkies should realize that in conjuction with floods in the plains alternative feul has used up subsidized farming crops that keeps prices low. Prices have sky rocketed to record highs in the past year.

  11. There are many alternative energies. They are wind, solar, water, hydraulic, and many others. Liberals just tend to want to stop global warming so they want to use alternatives.I am for it because it will save the earth. By drilling more oil, there is more pollution and more global warming effects and that causes bad things. :(

  12. Domestic oil production increasees will NOT affect prices. That's because it's a global market. Prices are set world-wide, we don't control the price of oil by producing a tiny bit more compared to the world's output. What has affected prices int he past (1974 -76 approx.) was domestic CONSERVATION. So in the supply-demand equation, curbing demand seems to work better. Besides conservation, we could use other energy sources instead of oil to bring down demand. Americans are tough enough and smart enough to make that work. The evidence is in, and it is clear that alternative energy strategies will work, and what is more, looking at the global warming crisis, they will have to. And these strategies don't belong to liberals -- whoever that may be -- we're just talking about solid, realistic science and engineering and economics.

  13. Boy you must like abuse to ask this question with this crowd!! LOL

You can't reason with brainwashed people all you can do is hope someone in congress grows some balls and gets the drilling started!! (And some new refineries are need too.)

s***w the caribou, drill in Alaska!!

  14. Not too long, technology evolves quite rapidly mate.  I typically take a middle stance, but honestly, alternative energy will be a way to go.  Just give it a few years.  Electric cars.  Cars that run off hydrolysis. etc etc...just be patient....

  15. Because they are nuts!  Liberals never make any sense to me.  Yes - we have wind power, solar power, etc - but none of them create enough energy to solve the problem.

To me, this is so much more than just drilling to lower gas prices.  We live in the USA and we can do it all.  We need to drill for oil, build nuclear power plants and dig for coal.  Even if we did not need the oil, I would support drilling because it is a commodity that the world uses.  We drill, we create jobs here, selling oil brings money here and strengthens the dollar, building refineries and nuclear power plants create more jobs here!  And if we no longer need the oil, we can export it to other countries which lessons the power of the middle East.  It's win, win, win for the USA by drilling and there is only one party standing in the way - the Democrats!  They have blocked drilling since 1995 - think of all the jobs that were not created!!

  16. They probably say that because in the current situation it is the pollitically correct thing to say. Also there are already a boat load of alternate energy sources. One of the more popular is the hydrogen fuel cell which combines hydrogen with oxygen to make electricity, and there is NO pollution as a by product, just water.

  17. the alternative energy is already available...solar energy, hydroelectric energy, wind energy, and ethanol (needs some work, though) are all great energy sources...the problem is getting more people to use it...more drilling will destroy more of the dwindling amount of wilderness...as it stands, we'll be all out of oil in less than 500 years...and if things don't change soon our world will become a barren wasteland...

  18. Its not going to take any time to "find alternative energy." IF "the Republicans"  AND YOU weren't stuck on a energy source--oil--that dates back to the 1800s you might wake up tothe fact this is the 21st century.

We HAVE alternative energy technology now--practical electric cars that are twice as efficient as gas-driven ones. Solar energy that is cost-effective on a commercial scale, and nearly so even for individual homes. Wind turbines. Nuclear power  technology that is cost-effective and safe.

Let's try this: stop all the subsidies to the oil companies. Stop giving them billions of dollars of oil on PUBLIC land that belongs to the pubic. Stop allowing them to block legislation that would require increased fuel efficiency in cars or promote alternative fuleled behicles.

In short--let's have a free market, instead of a free ride for the oil companies. Then you'll see ore alternative energy than you can shake a stick at.

  19. Sooner or later we are going to run out of oil.  It's not like dinosaurs are still around to die and make more of it.

More drilling might be part of the answer for the short term, but eventually we will need a better energy source.

The best, fast way to see an immediate reduction in oil prices is to curb speculation with new legislation.

  20. Who said you have to be a liberal to want to develop and use alternative energy.  Just because our Pres. Bush has been our worst president and McCain is acceptable to it.  Wouldn't you think as the word conservative applies these so called conservatives would want to conserve some of our natural resources?

  21. just like republicans to only think of themselves. think about the here and now.... we live on a planet filled with life similar and dissimilar to our own. if humans, with all their apathy, keep engaging in this selfish practices that they deem necessary to fuel a modern lifestyle, there will be no Earth. Life for the generations to come will be h**l. How long can nature take such abuse? Do you know why these alternative-energy sources aren't surfacing to a practical level of usage?! because the "old money" of america's convervative republican men run the world. it seems as though through the generations, their souls become more indifferent to general human welfare. Do you think that these gentlemen, manipulating the government and with the substantial portion of the nation's capital are helping our transition toward alternative energy? of course they aren't. it's not immediately necessary, meaning it won't affect them directly. And it's not going to be very profitable at the start. Any speak of a diversion from oil as the primary fuel source would probably discredit all their misleading propaganda about their wars in the middle east. it may even force them to confess that our environment actually is facing crisis due to the pollution and destruction they cause. personally, i hope oil prices go through the roof. it'll probably kill two birds with one stone... minimize pollution and get Americans back into good physical condition. offshore drilling is a horrible idea... as if we haven't done enough damage to the planet, they want to do a whole bunch! of it compressed into a short amount of time. might as well kill earth quickly and get it over with. maybe these conservative tyrants are more environmentally sympathetic after all. our poor planet shouldn't have to endure such a long period of suffering.

  22. It's not that we think alternative energy is better than oil.  It's just that, we are running out of oil!  There is only so much and if we use it all now, we won't have any for future generations.  So we can either gradually progress to cars and machines that run on other things besides oil, or we can wait for another fifty years until we're completely out of oil and have to use alternative energy anyways.  Your pick.

  23. Solar and wind it really works, I know I use it. As for cars, there have been cars that run on water the big oil companies don't want us to know about!!! They go to great lengths to surpress this information because of their greed!!! The oil companies are making billions every day! I guess you don't remember 3 mile island or the exon oil spill !! Then what do you do with the toxic waste? Think about that.

  24. lol. The mystical alternative enrgy you're speaking of has been discovered. Solar energy, Wind energy, corn-based fuels......take your pick.

  25. I think is not ....

  26. haha...even the oil companies and McCain are not quoting those years....most say 7-10 years is more accurate. Regardless, McCain has called drilling in ANWR a "psychological gimmick"....that will do nothing to ease the prices.

Further, the amount of oil known to be in ANWR will only last for a max of 2 years....and we have tons of drilling sites already leased by oil companies that are not being used....both on and off shore.

  27. It's not about being "superior."

It's about "renewable" energy. Get it? That means energy that doesn't just disappear once it's used.

Wind, sun, water, and hydrogen are all examples of such energy.

What are we supposed to do when there is NO MORE oil?

Should we just go about our business burning oil until we run out? Then what?

  28. Really the only answer is to consume less in the short run, and focus on alternative, non- fossil fuel based, and less harmful to the environment energy.

Drilling isn't going to lower costs of gas, you have to be kidding me if you think Exxon and Chevron are going to charge less for domestically produced oil.  In addition to that, adding oil to the supply(keep in mind this is the WORLD SUPPLY) doesn't do much regarding gas prices if you don't increase your refining capacity, which can't happen overnight.

Sorry to everyone with a jacked up V10 dually, but my advice is to sell it for scrap metal and think of another way to haul around your trailer, because there really isn't anything that will offset the demand for oil in the world market.

The bottom line is that Republican/OIl Companies(same thing really) are feeding you a line of c**p about offshore drilling and drilling in ANWAR lowering gas prices, it is far more complicated than that.

  29. Liberals KNOW that finding a clean, cheap energy source is better than a dirty, expensive one. We have already found a cheap, super powerful source, which we are trying to figure out how to use- gas hydrates. As for clean-solar or nuclear power.

  30. And after we use up that oil what do we do?  The problem is not lack of drilling.  The problem is the same as when this first became a problem in 1973.  We need to get off oil and on to sustainability.  We were promised energy independence in 10 years at that time.  We could still do it in 10 years.  We are still not doing it.  Why?  It's certainly not the liberals and the environmentalists who have been screaming for conservation and alternatives for 40 years.  Maybe you should look a little deeper at the problem.
