What on earth are they teaching these days under the guise of s*x education? Do they really not realize that abortion is not the only form of birth control?

Actually, I guess they are just using this to trash a kid - but it sure makes them look stupid! Doesn't It??

  1. Many of them honestly don't know how contraception works, or what a "baby" really is.  I recently answered a question on here by a lib who asked why cons support the pill because it is still abortion.  I pointed out that the pill prevents the conception in the first place: no conception = no baby = no abortion.  Some people think the pill forces the fertilized egg out of the woman - simply not true, it prevents the egg from entering the fallopian tube, so it never gets fertilized (therefore, no life starts).

It's really sad that so many people have no idea how this all works.

  2. I don't know... it's kinda crazy... because even some of the more "fundamental" Christian groups such as the Southern Baptist tolerate things like birth control...

  3. Actually Army Chick, here is what's up:

Many social conservatives not only advocate pro-life, they also advocate abstinence-only policies in high school education. This has much to do with the strong religious backbone of the social conservative group.

In my personal experience, high school never taught me about contraception. I am from a heavily-conservative area in North Texas. The school taught that the only way to ensure you could not become pregnant or diseased, was not to have s*x. To a teenager with raging hormones: most take the chance/danger over being told it is something they "cannot do"... its typical youngster rebellion.

Imagine if, our schools started a program that would be based upon preventative measures. Teaching about birth control pills, IUDs, condoms (both kinds), diaphragms and shots. If the school was and black and white about it as my OBGYN, gave me stats, and realistic answers to treatment of STDs... instead of showing me pictures of the "world's worst case" of herpes, and telling me that by having 3 partners in my life, I really have slept with some hundreds of people vicariously through my exes.

The reason that the two are associated is simple: abstinence only education is also backed by those who are strongly pro-life. contraceptive and preventative education is backed by those who support pro-choice.

    Isn't pro-life a choice too?

    Food for thought.

  4. Well, both McCain and Palin are against s*x ed that teaches use of birth control.  And Bush is as well - you know, his faith based programs that give more money to schools who teach abstinence only.

You can't keep curious, horny teens ingorant and think they won't get themselves in trouble.
