Why do lots of people spell poorly and use bad grammar on this forum?

Is it lack of education or are they just lazy? There's also a lot of text speak which is difficult to understand for a lot of folk and often I don't help with questions because it takes me so long to figure out what is being asked. There is no excuse for bad English if you are English and it's neither cool nor clever to use it.

People nowadays, especially young people, think it doesn't matter, but it is a poor reflection on the writer. I serve on a number of recruitment panels and part of the job is to sift through the resumes/CV. If the applicant's spelling and grammar is poor, I immediately form a negative impression of the person. So spelling and grammar are important in the real world, even if some people don't think so.

I agree 100%. There is no reason to use improper grammar or to avoid spelling things correctly.

For some folks, good grammar is a high priority.  For others, well.....

It's worth checking out, or sending to someone who needs a gentle reminder about writing well.  The article includes excellent writing tips like:

*Always avoid alliteration.

*Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.

*Avoid cliches like the plague—they're old hat.
