Why do managers do this? Me and another co-worker got into a misunderstanding and the co-worker verbally?

insulted me. The person that used to be an assistant manager heard what she said but all she said to her was "your mean". She did nothing else about it. What do you think about this manager. Does a person like her deserve to be a manager?

  1. Uh, no, a good manager should get involved if the other person is not behaving civily in the work place. don't be confused by Tonia's post. If this dispute occured outside the workplace, then they can't do much but it's in the workplace I assume and it should not have been allowed. A good manager always enforces the policy of respect and civility within the office/workplace.

Your manager's "not in my backyard" approach sounds like she's got no guts. Imagine when a customer comes telling her off. How will she react.

Your manager should have asked you both to take your dispute out of the office OR to can it.

But who knows? Perhaps that is the way the manager handled it but no doubt she has the incident in the back of her mind. She knows now that the coworker is not very civil and workable, so that coworker may be passed up for promotions or even easier to fire. Don't worry too much.

  2. Sounds like workplace drama. Managers are supposed to see that the job gets done and the sort of drama you and your co-worker were involved in doesn't continue. Perhaps she thought by down playing the incident it would work itself out and go away.

Managers are just glorified babysitters on most jobs and they do get tired of dealing with adults that behave like children. It would probably be in your best interest to let the whole situation go unless your co-worker continues to insult you. If it continues to happen you should take your complaints to the proper supervisor.

  3. It could have been the first thing that popped into her head.  She may be used to her own children speaking to each other and that is the clean language she uses around her house.

If you wanted her to be more business like she could have informed you to settle your differences immediately like professionals or you both will be on written probation for your disruptive actions in the workplace.
