Why do many African-Americans put light skin "good" hair people on a pedestal and then?

get upset when they grow up and are conceited and arrogant? Why do you think light skin girls with light eyes and "good" hair are typically (not always) stuck up, because when they were kids everyone was ALWAYS telling them how pretty they are and ignoring the attractive brown skin or dark skin kids. Your the ones that gave them the big head and then get mad when they grow to believe they are better or prettier then dark skin people. Sorry it's the truth. Look at all the black female s*x symbols throughout history majority are light skin: Lena Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, Dianne Carrol, Halle Berry, Tyra Banks, Beyonce etc... This is because the black community themselves put these women on a pedestal while ignoring the Lauryn Hill types.

  1. hmm our society is really messed up- its been this way for a long time- the only way things could change is by working on the now, not the later- i'm light, i've been said to have good hair, be pretty and all that stuff- but to be honest- i know my flaws and limitations-

i think the beauty thing is overrated- and it will be the downfall of our world as we know it- colorism and texturism is a problem for blacks, native americans, hispanics, whites- all races- its not healthy and its very flawed-

the main reason black girls don't have long hair is the chemicals they put in it- the extensions- not because we are genetically inferior to grow long hair! some idiots believe this!

i think a lot of people go with the flow on beauty only being a certain skin color, bone structure, or hair texture, because that is what they learned and a lot of them don't know any better- mind control- its a very powerful thing in our society- brainwashed we all are- for good and bad reasons-

this light skin dark skin thing is very out of control- and its consequences are showing themselves in how many minorities see themselves (beauty, success, happiness, etc)...many just aren't succeeding like they could be- or seeing the beauty they all have-

but in order to change norms on beauty- a person would really have to change the core of history- our society- the minorities would have to lead some kind of a revolution- if they expect to not be at the bottom of society working for a rich white man- but people complain about this all the time- and sit and do nothing- another person says i hate this beauty standard but perms their hair- marries someone light skinned to have pretty kids right?

so i personally am tired of thinking about this or talking about this- its sad- sad how society has taken over all of our minds- sad how when i was growing up a lot of darker skinned blacks didn't like me because i was lighter with curlier longer hair-

  2. yeh i have discussed this so many times. i'm actually tired of talking about it. everyone knows(or should know) that superficial beauty is not the colour of your skin. rather, it is how your features come together.

i wish people would snap out of it and stop calling non-black hair 'good'. i think these people are crazy lol. i don't know what's going though people's minds. its like they're in trance. a white washed trance

i'll just add that this is def not just an aa problem. coloroism is rife in asian and parts of African culture too.

  3. lol..this is gonna get alot of responses

Too be honest their arent that many "really dark"  african/black Americans. Tyra Banks is NOT light skinned to me. Most of our black American girls dont resemble say...Alex Wek. Gabrelle Union is probably the complextion of your average black/african Amereican and she is usually seen as a s*x symbol. So I dont really know what your getting at. I personally am not really caught up on color like you.

  4. I actually do understand what you are saying. The ones that do have been whitewashed. This technique to divide and conquer is not as prevalent as it once was, because some are catching on that we are all black, and in our own wonderful lineage comes different gorgeous textures and tones. I used to see that happen more years ago, it seems to be under control now. I love all people the same. Before we are black white or orange we are all human.

  5. Blame the Europeans. This happens on the Indian subcontinent as well.

  6. Agreed, and I believe that many here will use an excuse, when in fact they themselves are hypocrites. I'm not dark-skinned at all, in fact, I'm nowhere near it in the least. Many here have already used the excuse of this "slave-master" thing, but that's false, and it isn't truth as some have stated. It only puts money into the pockets of the very authors who are keeping you divided. If we were arguing about the Blonde ideal, then that would be a different matter altogether.

I believe Beauty is too abstract to fix upon a colour. Features, personality among many other factors come into the whole pool of Beauty. Those who simply state that Lighter-Skinned girls are better than Darks, or vice-versa, are thinking of the world in an overly-simplistic manner.

    Good question.

Basic Needs: Because it's written in a book doesn't make it  true. If we use that logic, is the Mein Kampf real, even when it clearly stated that the destruction of Jews was the way forward?

  7. I think the slave dayz have got somefin to do wiv it and the fact that the universal beauty is white - the media - not me.

Im light myself but who cares im styll viewed as black even doe i can pass for other thingzz....err yh.

Other darker, blacker folks u to tease me becuz i was lighter then them....at college all the dark africans wwere SO jealous of ME>?

    i hated dat.

  8. I agree with you, but whats wrong with putting light skinned and good haired blacks in the spotlight???..At the end of the day were all black aren't we. I think your having some insecurity issues right here.

  9. I fatimah think that the reason we as a race do that is because, we have been so brainwashed into thinking that white is so pure.We have been taught to beleive that light is better, but as you get older you should then be able to get out of that state of ignorance.!!!!!

  10. Hmm...this is a very trivial matter. I couldn't care less

about what color someone's skin is. You need to get

over it. If someone thinks light is better then fine. I have

    my own opinions too.

  11. alot of this comes back from slavery

the master would let the light skinned black in the house..take them places...even have s*x with them....it was a way to keep the slaves divided....because divided we fall..

there are many books written on the slave mentalilty im sure you can find some online

and before u thumbs me down this not my opinion this is a documented FACT

  12. I do agree with you to an extent...I am African-American, I have light skin, "good" hair and green eyes & I am not at all arrogant!!! I actually hate the term "good hair", because what does that say about any other African- American that has hair that is different than mine...that it's bad?  Then that would include my daughters, so I get offended by that. I do agree however that it is the black community that puts these women on a pedestal, because they are thought to be more desirable, but it is absolutely not the case. I think it depends on how you were raised.  I had many different people in my family who did feel they were better,  and still to this day talk about black people as if they weren't black themselves. It's sad but true. Thank goodness I learned how not to be from them. It was tough for me growing up because a lot of black girls did not like me because they felt I thought I was white and white girls felt I was too black. We need to change people!!!

  13. Not sure, but you're right. HUM! Good question.

  14. white washed

edit- um. why are you listening to gr1zzly (the racist).

edit- londen, I saw your pic you are NOT light skinned so stop lying.

  15. I don't know about anyone else, but Lauryn Hill is hands down better looking than those names you mentioned!

Also, white jawns don't attract me!
