"Sasha" is the most popular contraction of "Alexander" in Russia and many other Slavic countries. However, in Russia most of the girls named "Alexandra" also have the nickname "Sasha" :)

Because for some reason, Sasha is a contraction of "Alexander." Just like "d**k" is contraction of "Richard."
