  1. Grow up!  I did two tours in the central highlands of the nam.  You don't need to "know" the folks that are trying to kill you--your job is making sure you kill the b******s before they kill you.  War is a simple brutal equation--kill or be killed.

  2. Source?

  3. For to many Americans, the sight of middle easterners celebrating the collapse of the towers on 9/11 was all they needed to know. Add that to the images of public stonings, and you don't come away with a favorable image.

  4. Good question. Have another wine cooler.

  5. Americans, by and large, don't know a lot about any place (even the U.S.).  I think a lot of people are xenophobic, which makes it easier for us to go blow people up.  We convince ourselves that they are all bad and evil and deserve what they get.  Perhaps if we tried to learn a bit about the world (or at least elected a President who knows how to pronounce the names of other nations), we wouldn't be so quck to engage in cowboy diplomacy or we wouldn't be so callous in our disregard for everyone outside our borders (and within, too).

  6. huh ?

  7. People in the US know more about the Middle eastern people than the middle eastern people know about us. That is a fact of EDUCATION. In the middle east, education is not as much of a priority for all the people as it is here. In the case of females, they are not to be educated according to most attitudes in the middle east because to them it is  a waste of time.

  8. It's easy because I know that it wasn't taught when I was in school. I had some exposure to non-European countries in a Global Studies course. But that was about it. Generally speaking, our knowledge and introductions regarding people around the world seems lacking. If it weren't then why is there so much hate and ignorance in the U.S. Most of it is fear related, fear of the unknown. We are living in unstable and uncertain times. There is always hope for the future but it seems the more I learn, the more I question how much hope there is. We have to work together. I don't understand why people always think it is someone else's responsibility. To me, all of this is interconnected. The more we learn about the Middle East and the other areas of the world the better off we will be. We can work towards peace and harmony. It's hard to be willing to fight someone we know. It is politicians and people with selfish interests who have power that cause so much strife for the rest of us. They cost us so much money with their idiocy. Anyone who knows anything of the Middle East knows that going into Iraq was a huge mistake. There was not enough planning and preparation. They have been fighting over there for years and years. It goes beyond the Europeans first interference. Bush and his team was arrogant and stupid. Bush and Cheney need to be impeached and imprisoned for what they have done. Generations to come will be paying for their mistakes. It's criminal.
