  1. because of personal experiences and thru media and other sources

  2. Saba & Mintee said enough

    I've nothing more to say.

  3. because its true.

  4. first of all,"rights" has many meanings and every society has its own "rights"

depending on the society believes .

the people you are talk about are the foriegn people.

people who haven't ever visit Saudi , Just heared what media says and repeat it .

    and here I'm wonder,

how could an educated person judje 25 million people just because he/she heared that from the media ..?

many many people have stereotypes about Saudi's society . woman's rights is one of the stereotypes repeated many times by western media/people .(And you can see the answers to know what I am saying )

the most unappropriate thing is when media link those stereotypes to the ISLAM ,

just to say to western , "hey guys see how is Islam deal with woman ".

in the another hand , ISLAM says that :"heaven is under mother's feet" which mean if you takecare about your mother

and you was a good children for her you will go to the heaven .

there is many things must clarified :

First , Saudi's woman is an attractive topic , every person(specially Arabs) wanna know about them , about what they do

so newspaper & magazines talk a lot about Saudi woman to get more revenue !

    Second ,

every society has its pros & cons , I have been lived in Europe and America for along time . and I can say that

woman in Saudi has more safe, respect, and successfull  life than woman in the western .

I don't know how you judge that woman  repressed by men ,

just because you see  woman covering her body with clothes thats mean she repressed by men ?

Saudi's woman can decide whatever they want(as another women)

such as who will be my spouse ? ,

which university I want ? which major I wanna to study ?

which company I could hired in ?

    Slive >

I hadn't compare my country with western media ,

bcz I can see how the America freedom is ugly !

    lilia :

Saudi women haven't been forced to wear certain clothes , it is subjective thing .

the women can go to any grade of school without any difficulties

my sister has PH.D in Chemistry  !

woman can be work as Doctor , Nurse , Teller , Teacher , Seller , member of faculty in university ,IT specialist ..etc )

    Elizabeth >

search for business women in Saudi Arabia

and you will see the results !

    tonalc2>

women driving is society issue ,

the goverments say if the society want the woman to drive they will drive .

and there is nothing related to the Saudi men.

its women issue , the majority of women in Saudi don't like to drive !

if woman want to go anywhere her husband or brother or philippino driver

can drive her to any place .

additionally , you can see woman drives in many village in Saudi

isolated women from men bcz ISLAM say that , thats doen't imply

you can't talk to the woman at public ,you can talk/make business/do anything legally

with woman in the public or with her husban/father/bother/son .

    Davage >

you came with many misconception about Saudi women , plz take the truth from the intended people

not from what you heared in the media

  5. Perhaps because--

They cannot vote nor run for office.

All universities are segregated by gender (where they are forbidden to study law or engineering).

They are not allowed to drive.

They cannot travel without permission from their husband or other male family member.

They cannot work in most government offices; where they are employed, they are put in separate sections.

They can be beaten for "morality lapses" such as not wearing the full cover abaya.

  6. ......who are those many you're saying by the way?.....they are not repressed and they have rights the only thing is they are hidden or isolated from watchful evil eyes.....

  7. Eisa and Mintee said it quite well. Any of you answering this (muslims) and making it sound as if we are suppressed/repressed/opressed, shame on you! Many things are the way they are because it is an ISLAMIC country! In america you can follow any religion you want and its ok, do whatever you want and say... In our religion we... and the excuse is accepted. Why not in islam then? I have a driver and love it! I come and go as I please, I work, my kids go out and have fun. I can get almost anything I want here. If you dont live in Saudi, dont comment. I admit I live in Jeddah where there are plenty of foreigners and it is quite open. I have 2 older daughters, 21 and 17 yrs., when I go back to the states, Im proud that I can say they dont drink, dont do drugs, they are virgins, they respect me, and have their minds on their future. Not just the next cute boy that comes along! I dont regret moving here or bringing up my children here or even becoming a muslim.

  8. Its simply an over exageration. they are much better than women in western countries. yes they are not allowed to drive; sounds difficult to logic. But they are protected frm rapes, from teenage pregnancy, single parent family burdens, abuse at work places & all the tragedies that are tearing apart the western society. Given a choice wouldn't all the parents wish to accompany their daughters to ensure their safety. one can walk  with a lady safely during the night in Saudi; I wonder how many cities can lay a claim to such sense of morality.

the misconception abt saudi women is bcoz nobody gets to talk to them. I believe they are much liberated than most of us are.

  9. Because of what they see and hear in the media, which they COMPARE to their own rights and freedoms.

  10. you will find all types of women treatment

some women are repressed and been abused, mistreated or degraded by their men.

other women are not repressed at all. in contrary, most of the successful women here, they always say that there is a man in their life that supported them. a father or a husband usually.

in general, women status in saudi is SO exaggerated by world media.

You might like to read this petition against Oprah show in her talk about women in saudi. Many of the girls who signed this petition were the most open minded, modern girls

    http://www.petitiononline.com/4oprah/pet...

by the way: when i was in US, i felt many women are repressed, exhausted and stretched in life.

seeing a very old lady (age of my mother) cleaning toilet in such a rich country? no one will let his mother in our societies to do so and he is alive.

hearing about domestic voilence incidents against wives and daughters in the US

  11. Because they don't have rights

  12. well if being free and UN oppressed means

I have to right to sleep around with any  man I choose, married or not, whatever age, under 18 or over

I have to right to marry and have s*x with my own gender,

I have the right to walk down the street practically undressed with my manner of clothing

I have the right to throw my kids out if I cant handle motherhood

I have the right to throw my elderly parents to the government cause I dont want to bother with caring for them

I have to the right to choose abortion as my method of birthcontrol every time I get pregnant..

I have the right to drink whatever I want, whenever I want.

I have the right to smoke whatever I want, as long as I dont get caught..

    etc etc etc etc

then I think I will prefer the good moral fiber of my oppression here in SAudi.. thankyou very much!......

*this is not meant against you Gloria, this is sarcasm against the others that feel we are oppressed*

  13. because we have many saudi woman in the west that tell us about these things .... and also you have no word ..... only the man rules and thatss wrong.

  14. It has a lot to do with the rights that Saudi women don't have and the  fact that some men force them or you to wear total body covering clothing.  It has to be extremely hot and uncomfortable.  Most are not allowed to go to school after a certain grade and are not allowed to work.  I believe that if this is what a woman wants than it is not our business.  But if a woman is repressed by men and want freedom it is a very sad life to live in a country with such rules only meant for women.

  15. Because that is the profile that has been shown to us here in the USA are you saying they are not?

I read and article about a lady in Saudi that ran a Harley Dealership she had to be escorted by her brothers was not allowed to drive and even thought the success of the business was totally attributed to her

her father was planing to marry her to a man she did not love.

I have heard of the female circumcision and the veiling of women and you say they are not repressed hahahah

  16. Because they are not allowed to get or do:

    education

    jobs

    drivers license

    divorce

    say no to their husband

leave house without a male in the family supervising

    choose their own life

if they are homosexual, be with a woman

choose whether to be chick circumstanced (awful)

choose their own religion or lack of religion (Death penalty)

or pretty much anything a FREE woman could or might do,  besides what just happens to be the norm or what her supervisor or religion wants.

Worse yet they are taught from birth that this is how it has to be. A form of brainwashing.

    Does that help at all?

And I think you mean oppressed, which is opposite of freedom.

  17. yo sup

arite comon this is way too obvious.cuz its a FACT which nobody can deny.

but just for the sake ima stat some facts/reasons.

1.they aint allowed to hold many high posts in government jobs.

2.they are not even allowed to take many proffession such as cops, firefighters ect.

    3.they aint allowed to drive.

4.while divorce, there is no way she is gon get custody.

5.they dont have freedom of dressing

6.they cant play sports, or even go to stadiums and watch sports.

7.they can get beaten by their husbands, male relatives, even honor killed and the culprit gets away with it most of the time or at most gets like a year in jail cuz its "islamically justified"

8.they cant marry a guy of her choice, they needs approval from male relative.

9.female witnesses in court are not "reliable" unless backed by another male becuz female are "drama queens" and "twists the story".

i think i said enuf if u still think women there are "treated fairly" lemme know.

    arite peace out!@

EDIT: oh yeah i forgot, they need a male to sign some paperwork b4 they can travel.

some radicals give real hilarious answers.

Yes, if u are above 18, u can have s*x.

yes, everybody should be given the right to drink and smoke(btw saudis are real heavy smokers)

yes, u should be able to wear anything u want if they cover ur sexual parts(unless "undressed" means ur hair face and body is not covered by black clothe)

abortion is legal and in america we cant "throw" our kids until they are 18 and most americans dont "throw" their kids or elderly.

even tho g*y marriage is illegal in most states, i believe ppl should not be treated differently and killed unlike wat some radicals think.

  18. I dont think so but may be western ppl think so coz this is the image that some people give it to them
