  1. In some Asian communist countries and communism is suited to their core beliefs which their society and religious teachings

  2. Since the early 1990s when the Soviet bloc disintegrated, a completely Communist system with no elements of economic capitalism is quite scarce. Only North Korea fits this description.

There are, however, Communist party-run, non-democratic states, like China and Vietnam that are trying to  combine top-down political sicialism with elements of economic capitalism.

For example, China has allowed private ownershp of assets, direct foreign investment by Western firms, and has a stock market. However, theses are not fully transparent because the government still owns part of each company on the stock market and still owns a part of all the largest banks.

So, as long as there is political influence in economic decisions,  efficient, transparent and liquid capital markets will be compromised. It remains probematic whether China's very large, global economy can be served by this hybred financial system.

There are other issued as well, like freedom of information, but the banking one is a good example.

The people that are in power are being served by that power. They will only give it up when their field grade army officers won't obey orders. As long as the Party can persuade people that they are making progress and providing security, they will not be overthrown.

  3. The question is interestingly put, but a better question might be: "Why have so few countries stuck with communism."

In fact, most countries that had the misfortune to live under totalitarian communist regimes (the East Bloc, for example) have made a more-or-less successful switch to market economies, along with adopting western-style democracies.

There is only one, true, totalitarian communist country left, that being North Korea. Even China, certainly no democracy and a place where law is meaningless, has largely switched to a market economy--which has enabled tremendous growth.

Cuba, still run by a few totalitarian thugs, gave up the socialist dream recently, a change made necessary by the failures of its centralized system.

History is running against the communists, but don't cheer too loudly. We in the U.S. and other developed countries are being ravaged by uncontrolled and rapacious capitalism. That's no bargain, either.

  4. because there is no such thing as the best form of government ever exist. a government is a good government as long it takes care of the people, it doesn't matter if the type is democracy, monarchy, communism, democracy, etc.

  5. Living under tyranny all your life you are suspicious of the natural rights of freedom that should be everyones.. give them time they just aren't used to voting for more than one party.

  6. Because other countries should mind their own business.

  7. So that they can't be dependent on others & be employed in their own countries.... esp. China

  8. In countries like Cuba, China, and North Korea people are not exactly free to choose any kind of government they want.

Once communists come to power by any means they can.  Then they do all they can to stay in power.  Which often includes using the army and the police to prevent their people from changing their government.
