Why do many white people live in denial of their northern european roots?

how could they possibly deny their european roots?  that's like blacks denying their african roots - this seems like a flame-baiting post to me and because you just got here a few days ago, FYI it's posting something designed strictly to rile folks up and is reportable - just so you know.

I don't deny it, but at the same time I'm not from their so I don't embrace it. I'm Canadian with links to France/Belguim and S. Russia (obviously they didn't come from Russia but I'm not sure if it was even considered the USSR yet when they came over).

I don't have northern European roots. Don't know why they'd do that.

Why effect do your roots have on anything?  Roots mean nothing.  Culture is important, as is identity, but if you don't identify with a particular culture or identity, then what difference does where you came from make?

Can you give any examples at all?  I have never had anyone "deny" their NE roots.

probably because they either don't like northern european people so they don't want to be considered them or they maybe arent northern european its very bad to judge people since many natives in north america are now white :)

it's called guilt.  their origin, british especially, indicates that their ancestors kept slaves.
