  1. Go back to Burma.

  2. I think those who have left look old. They either have bad complexion, or they have crooked teeth. Well, if they are not happy with life in Singapore, then by all means, migrate. But they should not affect the lifestyles of Singaporeans like me and my hubby, who are still staying in our homeland.

  3. Many people move for better opportunities, to and from Singapore for example. Immigrating is a different thing - that means a permanent move.

For foreigners that move to Singapore, it clearly offers something their own country doesn't beyond a better job, it could be a safer environment (it is one of the safest places on the planet) or a passport that allows easier travel, all sorts of things.

Singaporeans who emigrate must also be seeking something more than just a better job. Escape from the oppressiveness of  a small, tightly controlled society has been mentioned to me as one reason.

  4. People want a change in environment. Singapore is a small country, so people there are bored. I am a Chinese. My mother lived in China for 20 years, like her, she went to the Philippines, because she want a change in environment. Well, like Singapore, China is also a beautiful country. It is because people are bored living in the same country. I want to go to Singapore .

  5. Good question.  As a foreigner myself, I think many outsiders come to something better while Singaporeans leave for something even better.

Singaporeans do take a lot of things for granted.  They don't know how lucky they are to be able to get government services without having to bribe someone.

  6. Aziz is somehow right. I've worked in another country before and one of my colleagues got into trouble with the law. After spending half a day at the police station, taking down statements and everything, the police officer offered my colleague a deal. Cough up S$15,000 and they will "give" us all the files that contain the witness statements and etc. In other words, close the case. Luckily we managed to reduce the amount to S$8,000. That is the reason why I still feel lucky to be here in Singapore.

edit; Sorry, regarding your question; some Singaporeans find other countries nicer and wished to live there and foreigners who came here have the same reason too.

  7. S'poreans are leaving for the very same reason the "foreign talents" are leaving their homeland to come to SG... $$$

If anyone can pay me double of what I'm making now, I'll be more than willing to move back to SG. My loyalty goes to the highest bidder, just like those table-tennis players from China.

  8. Singaporeans MAY be taking things for granted, but I don't think it applies to everyone.

I love Singapore; it's a great place and more importantly, this is where I grew up, and have many great friends here.

However, like most youngsters, I dream of the day when I can move overseas to work, and settle down there if I like the place.

Everyone has their reasons to migrate, and not because they take things for granted. We leave when we find that there are better opportunities out there, we leave when we find that we are treated unfairly, and we also leave when we can't get a job that we would prefer over others. The possibilities are endless.

It's human nature to want to migrate and have a change of environment. For me, I would like to live somewhere that is not as congested as Singapore, and the lifestyle is more relaxed.

Singaporeans can also afford to move to much better places like Australia, US, Canada and even Britain, while foreigners in Singapore are mostly from developing countries and thus, Singapore is like a first step to them.

I bet most of them don't even have the intention to stay on in Singapore. They just wanna use Singapore as a stepping stone.

But hey, I am not generalizing the foreigners, and I have come across foreigner friends who told me that in their countries, they see Singapore as a 'passport' to the big world out there, so it's a first step for them.

    So there.

  9. Singaporeans leave for greater opportunities outside as Singapore is too small. Foreigners come as they think Singapore provide them with opportunities.
