Why do men and women feel down when they finally let go of a relationship?

If two people fight for years and talk of divorce and "when the house sells you get yours and I get mine" but when the house hasn't sold and one moves out before the other. Now feels guilty for being the one to leave. what is that all about?

Real sense of failure. Most blame themselves for the relationship break-up seeing it a a sign of personal failure which no one wants so they feel down.  Many hate the idea of failing in front of friends and family. One can go through all the motions of a break-up or divorce but until it actually happens, its like some bad nightmare that one just hopes goes away. Its like a reality check and then one must face the fact its really over, no matter whose fault it is.

It's in losing the dream because when you married you believed it was going to last forever. Along with the bad you remember some of the good things about your relationship and when you are truly gone some say they even miss some of the bad. It takes time to adjust to a different life style and being alone after sharing your world with someone for many years.

It's because you're used to being around that person daily so there is an adjustment period.  The guilt is normal because you are questioning your decision and want to assure yourself that you have done everything possible to prevent divorce.

Because it means it's really the end.  Divorce is like a grieving process.  there is a loss no matter how brutal the divorce is.

Cause after a while your anger towards someone usually subsides and you only remember the good things about that person. Well that's what I've found with people in my life.

Because all the dreams you had of a life and future together are now over and dead. It makes anyone sad, even if they want the relationship to end.  The death of the dreams.
