Why do men dominate the chess board?

Question

I believe the top rated woman player in the world is ranked something like 21st or 22nd. Why is this?

Women are free to compete with men at any level. I believe out of about 1109 grandmasters in the world right now, only 11 are women. Not trying to offend people here, but why do you think this is?

There are several possible reason's but it is unknown why male dominate the chess world. It may be due to the physical endurance of the male.Chess tournaments are grueling exhausting and when the end game is reached after several hours of play so women are generally  weak in the end game.But there are no biological reason for the female  inferiority.

My guess is that men may have a higher tolerance for               B-O-R-E-D-O-M.      

Interestingly enough, more males than females are diagnosed with ADHD, and yet more males play chess.  Can a male with  ADHD excel at chess.  Discuss amongst yourselves, and then write a thesis for homework on this subject.  What percentage of males who excel at chess are still virgins after the age of 21?.

Chess involves the areas of the brain that govern spatial abilities and sight. Men tend to excel at activities involving these compared to women. This does not mean men are smarter than women.

If you look at a a curve of human intelligence, creativity and general ability, it might look someone "bell shaped", a common statistical finding. This curve might be slightly bimodal due to gender differences on some measurements. Either way, in terms of thinking ability, men tend to be found more on the extremes of the bell curve, ie both dumb and very bright. The same is true for left-handed people, who make up the majority of geniuses. Anyway, back to men. It is natural that most extremely talented, intelligent, creative, etc etc people are going to be *more likely* to be male.]

As others have mentioned, men also tend to exhibit superior spatial awareness than women, which *may* be an advantage in chess. I am somewhat skeptical of this though, because chess seems to be more a linear sequential type of process. Many mathematicians are poor chess players, for instance, but men also dominate there.
