  1. The "Adam's Apple" is a name used when referring to the visible lump in the throat caused by the larynx (voice box).

Of course everyone has a larynx, but it is bigger in males due to their deeper voices.

The name "Adam's Apple" stems from the bible story in the old testament about Adam & Eve in the garden of Eden, when Eve tempted Adam with the apple.  It may be a suggestion that it stuck in his throat.

    Hope this helps.  :)

  2. Adam's apple is a familiar anatomic feature in the front of the neck that is due to the forward protrusion of the thyroid cartilage, the largest and most prominent cartilage of the larynx. The thyroid cartilage tends to enlarge at adolescence, particularly in males. Enlargement of the Adam's apple is considered, like pubic hair growth, one of the secondary sexual characteristics. It is debated why exactly males tend to grow larger, but many point to testosterone affecting the thyroid cartilage and growing it longer and at a different angle then it does for girls as the reason.

It is usually said that Adam's apple takes its name from the biblical story about Adam, Eve. the serpent and the apple. A piece of the forbidden fruit stuck in Adam's throat and created the anatomic Adam's apple. So the story goes. However, it may be wrong. Adam's apple in Latin is "pomum Adami." This may have been a mistranslation of the Hebrew "tappuach ha adam" which also means male bump. Between Latin and English there's many a slip. The medical term for the Adam's apple is "prominentia laryngea" (prominence of the larynx) ....... hope this helped ....... = )

  3. think it has something to do with puberty.. it also probably attributes to a deeper voice. that i'm not sure of. but It's puberty, one of the elements that develop to make attraction possibly higher.

  4. testerone related

  5. cos there voices break

  6. Because Adam choked on the apple that Eve gave him- and it stuck in his throat

  7. its what makes our voice deeper than girls

  8. Because men have a lump in their throats from having everything that they say crammed back down by all women, starting with their mothers.

    And thanks for the points.

  9. The laryngeal prominence is usually more prominent in adult men than in women or prepubescent girls or boys. Note that the growth of the larynx itself during puberty is responsible for the vocal instability in teenage boys. The laryngeal prominence is merely the protrusion one sees of the thyroid cartilage making up the body of the larynx. The laryngeal prominence is usually more prominent in adult males because the thyroid cartilage elongates during puberty, protruding out the front of the neck more noticeably. The result is that the two laminae (thin cartilage) of the thyroid cartilage that form the protrusion meet at an angle of 90° in males, and 120° in females, so there is less cartilage protruding out in females.

A prominent laryngeal prominence is commonly considered a male secondary s*x characteristic though this is more of a perception because not all males have large laryngeal prominence and quite a few women do.

  10. I'm sure the hairy feminist lobby will start insisting on having them made available for women, soon enough...

  11. An Adam's apple is an anatomical structure which appears primarily in males. Because it develops during puberty, biologists classify it as a secondary sexual characteristic. The size of an Adam's apple can vary widely; some are extremely prominent, while others are less pronounced, and they even appear enlarged on some women as well as men. The primary purpose of the structure is to protect the delicate voicebox from injuries.
