Why do men where t-shirts under their shirts?

Question

I see alot of guys do that. Is it for fashion or is it just a rule. For example: women should where stalkins when wearing a dress.

I don't understand. I do have a few guesses.

i do cause i use to be like quite large, and i never lost the man brest with the weight.

Its comfortable and warm, or its to absorb sweat or stop the shirt from rubbing and chafing the skin. I wear singlets to absorb sweat and keep my back warm.

I think they do it to hide the nips, and some of them do it to mat the chest hair.

They keep us warm.  That's what undershirts are for.  And by the way, women wear stockings, not stalkins.  Also, there's no rule that says women have to wear stockings when they wear a dress.

As to rules about the wearing of t-shirts, there are none.

T s hirt is absorbent and can absorb sweat and keep the outer shirt more fresh than if they were not wearing the t-shirt.

I used to t hink women should wear stockings,too, but now that I live in Florida and have retired - I don't ever intend to wear hose again.  I figure I can wear purple and a red hat and no stockings!!!!!

Guess men's shirts are more s**y without the tshirt unless the shirt is wet and soggy and has circles under the arms.  Yuch.

This is why I th ink they would.  Makes even more sense in winter though to keep them a bit warm.  Women wear slips or camisoles under their clothing.  Don't they do it for the same reasons?

stalkin = slip? anywho, It's been liek that since the beginning of the suits. Men wore a white shirt underneath a white shirt so it wouldn't show through.

Both sweat and deodorants can discolor fabric. It's a shame to ruin a good shirt, when a T-shirt can protect it.

i do it cuz i want to be able to wear my polos and long sleeves more than once before i have to wash it. also it looks much better.

As you grow older, you'll begin to learn that T-Shirts and most shirts are see - through.

Like another poster said to keep your outer shirt clean from sweat and deodorants. Also the undershirt will catch sweat and sometimes the funk for when you dont put on enough deodorant or forget to put it on. Plus if its hot your undershirt will retain the moisture from your sweat creating a cooler barrier that other wise would evaporate if not for the undershirt.

The sweat glands in women and men are very different. In the hot summer months,the t-shirt absorbs the sweat to prevent staining the shirt. In the winter months,the t-shirt keeps you warmer under the top part of the long johns and the shirt,and the jacket above that.

It is custom doe to the fact that the material is sheer and see through in areas, it is also a sign of proper dress.
