Question:

Why do men who don't want the child ask for full custody?

I am troubled by a question I just read. The guy had gotten his ex gf pregnant. He didn't want the baby and told her to get an abortion. He then went on to state that he would rather take full custody than pay child support. I would write him off as a dumba**, but I have heard other men express the same idea. How can you not want a baby, but then ask for full custody? Can anyone explain this dichotomy to me?

  1. Maybe he had a change of heart, or maybe he thought he'd do a better job of raising the child.

  2. because they are dead beats and dont want to pay childsupport thats why.

  3. Thats exactly it, they just dont wanna pay child support, so instead they take custody of the baby and make his mom raise the baby. Because grandmothers would do anything to have their grandkids with them.

  4. Because they don't want to pay $$$$$$$....

  5. Boils down to the $$.... And obviously being stupid if they think that they can raise a child on less than the child support.  Some men believe that the money goes straight to the mother, and they don't want to give her a dime.

    Bottomline:  Ignorance

  6. It's 'guy think'.  Like you said, then they think it will get them out of child support payments, or they do it to simply spite the mom.  My ex is that way when push comes to shove.  He couldn't care less about helping out financially, but god forbid I should ever get a new bf (even though he can obviously have whoever he pleases), and he told me after we broke up that he would take me to court for custody!  And he even told me he would do it just to spite me, since I no longer wanted to be with him at the time.  Like you said, stuff like that usually flies out of the mouths of loser, dumb@ss, irresponsible guys.

  7. could be a combo of reasons

    change of heart

    don't want to pay support

they feel they are more fit

they just want to hurt the mother
