Why do menus in the U.K always offer "Chips" with everything?

Question

What I mean is chips with Lasagna, chips with Spaghetti in fact "Chips Ad Nauseum"

and have they no imagination ? those lousy baked beans with Breakfast? ugh.

Maybe because chips in the UK are so much tastier than American fries.  My late husband used to eat chip sandwiches with his meals also.  As for the beans, we also eat baked baked beans with eggs for breakfast here in Canada.  A perfect compliment for eggs.

i think you're visiting the wrong resturants!! if you go to a pub, yep, expect a choice of chips with everything, but you wouldn't see them on the menu with everything in a good resturant.

in scotland if you walk into a kebab shop you will see (and I am not kidding);

curry and chips,

cheese and chips,

chili and chips

beans and chips,

lasagne on chips,

haggis and chips,

and the list goes on
