Why do meteorologists have to study math in college?

i know a meteorologist and i want to know why he had to learn calculus and differential equations in college

  1. because you have to make graphs to make climate maps and such. You have to know how to convert from Celsius and Fahrenheit and back. You have to average temperatures, keep records, predict future weather patterns etc.

I think it really depends on what type of meteorologist that person is.  If they are on TV there are less statistical calculations (although there are still a good amount) than a research meteorologist.  There are statistical calculations done with climatological data and also with models and various other problems.
