i always hear some minority people say ohh i'm rich i live in a pre-predominately white community.

They say it as if it is better than an area amongst their own people?

why be racist against your own people? They always make it out as if they are stepping up or moving up the ladder living in an all white place.

You never hear white people say: "hey George we have to live in a mixed neighborhood, Hey George we have to live in a all (insert minority here) neighborhood if we want to be considered socially inclined and middle class."

No white people try to live among themselves, white people try to live among white people.

How come people always put down their own race and move out to places where they consider as higher class?

what are they trying to say?

  1. I'm white, but my boyfriend who is black has often told me he won't live in a "black" neighborhood. He says there is just too much trouble, drama, loud fighting, drugs, bad influence... He'd rather raise his kids miles away from anybody, but settles for the "white" part of town where it's quieter, and not as much stuff going on.

  2. why is it considered racist to live in a white neighborhood?  the hills of camarillo is very white.  it's also a gorgeous neighborhood.  beautiful mansions, gold courses etc.  agoura hills is also a beautiful place to live.  people like to patronize resorts and hotels in white neighborhoods.  not because they are white, but because they are upscale and if you can't afford to live there, you can visit there.  not many people are trying to 'move up' to inglewood.

  3. Really? I rarely hear about blk ppl living in mobile homes.

  4. Those neighborhoods are generally the nicest.

  5. I guess like people want to be different or whatever. Or not be categorized so they want to live with different people.

  6. I never met one, most people like to be near people they can relate to. And communities with retailers that cater to their needs.

I prefer to live in a nice black community, or a racially diverse neighborhood...however, I will never live in the some place extremely hood (although I live in a predominatly minority  community).

  7. Maybe because there are a lot of stereotypes against blacks about them being poor that they are proud of the fact that they are not.  It's not necessarily that they are ashamed of their own race, rather they are ashamed of the persecution that their race faces.

  8. People live where they want as long as they can afford it.

  9. "i always hear some minority people say ohh i'm rich i live in a pre-predominately white community."

Who are these people?  I have never heard such a comment.  People generally choose where they live because of the quality of life there, what they can afford, where their families live, and where their job is.  Some choose based on the racial makeup, but very few.

  10. Growing up in Michigan I don't think I ever heard anyone say that.  Michigan is pretty segregated though.  If you look around you will find only 1 race or group in an area.

Generally if for some reason they wanted to live somewhere nicer its going to be a mostly white area.  At the same time the other minorities will look at them as selling out if they move to a white area especially blacks.

  11. although i don't think i've ever come across that kind of person

my mother did want me to go to a predominately white high school before because lets face it, most predominately white schools in america get more money and better education than prodominately black/hispanic schools

  12. Never met one personally but...

    It's called assimilation.

Personally I do know white people(liberals) who brag about living in a "diverse" neighborhood to make themselves look tolerant or "worldly".

Edit: Not only that white neighborhoods do get paid more attention to and more money put into upkeep especially in schools. Maybe they feel they are getting a better education which a good thing.

Now I know why I read recently home-schooling in poorer neighborhoods is increasing among blacks/hispanics.

  13. White people mostly live in an established area where community facilities are matured, less crime and schools are usaually better run.

Many minorities,  especially Indian and Chinese parents, pay a lot of attention to the quality of schools and it happens that only in the white neighborhood can they find better schools for their children.

Therefore, livng with the white people is absolutely not the purpose of the minority to move into such neighborhood, and living with white people has nothing to do with minority's children future success, but the schools.

In fact, there are still a great numbers of white communities where minority doesnt want to move into, now you should know why.
