The history of the Jewish people is an unfortunate history of irrational intolerance.  Democrats tend to have a more tolerant attitude to minorities than Republicans.  Jewish people respect that.

Many Jewish opinions and beliefs also fit with Democratic ones. Early in the 20th century, Democrats were the ones who pushed anti-discrimination laws. Jews were suffering from discrimination at the time, and often had a hard time keeping jobs because they would not work on Friday evening and Saturday. Therefore, most Jews still vote Democratic or at least are part of the Democratic party.
