Why do most accidents that involve 18 wheelers end up with the truck running?

I've always seen truck drivers hit and run. Why? Are they told to run by their company maybe?

  1. Maybe they never noticed the little car that got hit.   I mean, I got rear- ended by a dump truck when trying to pull out onto the hiway(except I had to wait for the NEXT space) and the trucker was so close I disappeared from view and he too off in the next space.   He only realized he hit me because my car is Bright Yellow (and there ain't too many bright yellow ones out there and he saw me in his mirrors behind him pulling over to the side of the road.  So he stopped.

Surprized the heck out of me(the bang I mean) but I know what he meant by losing sight of the car....it was his fault.  He was sober.

  2. 'Most' don't. The ones that do have something to hide. Either they are drunk, using illegal drugs or carrying illegal cargo, just like car drivers who do hit and run.

Is that what I said moron? Did I say all truck drivers are drunk or on drugs? No I said that the ones that are involved in hit&run incidents, just like car drivers who hit&run. My mate drove a mack for 5 years before he  got cleaned up by a loser in a peterbilt who was running behind schedule and sniffing the white stuff like it was xmas time.

He drove off and my mate was left in a coma for 3 weeks. They only tracked the other guy down because he totalled his truck in an accident the 3 days later and killed a guy. He was found with speed in the cab and marijauna in his trailer.

So thumbs down to you 'idiot'.

By the way do a search on the net and see how many trucks are really involved in hit&run accidents, and how many of them were drunk, drugged or hauling illegal cargo.

  3. The ones that do most likely have driven past their required hours of driving and don't want to get caught......

  4. I'd like to know where you came up with that piece of information. It's total BS and a false accusation. MOST trucks that are involved in an accident stop immediately or at the first place where it's safe to stop without blocking traffic.

There are a few situations where the driver is unaware that they have hit something or that something has hit them, but very few. Contrary to what others have said here, a truck driver can feel almost everything that they hit or that hits their truck.

The only time I see what you are talking about happen is when they hit another truck, in a truck stop parking lot. Then they try to sneak off un noticed. 9 out of 10 times that will be a company driver, trying not to lose their safety bonus. I have never seen an owner/ operator hit another truck and try to sneak away, and they usually have to pay out of pocket.

Oh yeah and keep on giving those thumbs ups to the idiots that think we are all drunk or on drugs or hauling illegal cargo. That also is plain out BS.

  5. Most truckers don't run. They don't know they hit anyone because the car violated road rules. Trucks have blind spots and can't always see a car and are so heavy they can not feel the impact. Yes you will always have your rouge trucker who really should not be on the road. But the majority are good drivers and hope others obey the rules of the road as set down in the DMV handbook.

  6. Yeah, we're all drunk. Whatever. It's very possible and highly likely what's going on is the truck driver has no idea he hit something. I had a car come through the intersection and hit my trailer tires and if I hadn't had been looking at him, I would have never known. I felt NOTHING. Had he hit me in front or to the rear of my trailer wheels he'd probably be dead right now because I would have rolled over his car. I would have felt that, BTW. Minor stuff, you will never know unless you are watching your mirrors and the inexperienced  driver is going to be less likely to be doing so.
