Why do most car dealers seem dishonest?

  1. Invoice is not a sham.  The true cost of a car is invoice minus holdback minus finance.  Holdback is different for each line and sometimes for each build cycle.  It ranges from a few hundred dollars (low priced cars like focus) to a couple of thousand. (high end trucks, super duties, ect) Finance is usually a few hundred dollars  across the line.  Also remember that trying to get a good deal is great, but it is not a non-for profit business.  Work your best deal keeping that in mind.


      As for the salespeople, if you found a dishonest one, then go to a dealer with a better reputation.  There are many good dealers and salespeople out there, you just have to take the time to find one.  The easiest way to find one is the guy that works mainly off of referrals and repeat business.  If people go back to him (or her) then typically he is one of the good ones.
