Because the car is capable of going that fast - and there are parts of the world where you can legally drive that fast...

Because if the maximum speed is 60 or 70 your engine would explode everytime you get on the highway

Just because you are limited to 70mph on UK roads, it doesn't mean you're restricted on other country's roads, or for that matter off the public highway in this country.

The cars ARE NOT capable of going that fast, most cars newer than 95 have governors on them, which limit the speed, usually to around 105-115.

The speedometer issue is just for sales

I think it is just for looks. Mine says 160MPH. Noway in h**l will that car goanywhere near that speed, but another model that uses the same gage will go that fast.

you can drive that fast in germany on certain roads and plus what happens when you do up ur car and it happens to go faster, nitrous for example?

Two reasons:

1)  The speedometers are universal fitments, for every country in the world.  Just because we have a 70mph speed limit, doesn't mean the rest of the world does.

2)  The cost of making a model specific speedometer for every car in their range would be cripplingly expensive for a manufacturer to do.  So they make, say 5 or 6 variations, and fit them to all the different models.  No matter how fast they can go...
