  1. Living creatures today have two eyes because their ancestors had two eyes. The body plans of all living vertebrates is bilaterally symmetrical because they all have evolved from the same ancient ancestor. That is powerful evidence of evolution.


  2. From the point of view of evolution, creatures will most often not evolve more eyes than they need. The reason why 2 eyes turns out to be ideal is that one eye can only give a 2-dimensional view of the world, whereas putting the images produced by two eyes together with parallax calculations done automatically by the brain gives a three-dimensional view of the world (depth perception).

    From the point of view of "intelligent design"... well, that shouldn't be in this section, but the idea would be the same.
