I doubt there are any flies in those fancy indoor arenas lol...so what is the point? Is it just something that is "in style" for the showjumping world? xD thanks

  1. They are used to cover up ugly earplugs.

  2. It's also used for muffling noises.  Believe it or not, some people put a couple of tampons in their horse's ears to block the noise.  I've also seen foam balls, cotton balls, gauze, etc.  The mesh keeps it from falling out.  It was originally meant for flies, but, like a lot of things, was used for other things as well!

  3. i always wonder the same thing. please dont thumbs down me i just want to see the answer lol

  4. i always thought they were to keep flies out.  i saw something like it in a catalog in the fly prevention part. idk

  5. It is to hide the clay/sticky tack balls that are put ion the horses ears. We do this for to reasons one so young horses of tense horses don't hear the clapping of the audince and freak out and also so the horse has to pay better attention to us when picking a tack off or stride. so they don't loose their focus

  6. I've always used them to keep earplugs in. I use them when I'm riding in an indoor arena, because the echoing scares my horses.

  7. it's not used for muffling noise. People use earplugs for that. I've never hear of anyone using tampons for that either If you put a thin peice of cotton over your ear (which is all that those ear nets consist of) you are still going to hear. Plus horses have much more accute hearing than us. It is mostly for fashion.
