  1. Because the Bible is full of contradictions, inconsistencies and inaccuracies. It is valuable because it shows the life of Christ and His teachings. The rest of it is not worth wasting your time reading.

The Bible is definitely NOT the Word of God.

It was written by men immersed in an ancient patriarchal culture. They all had agendas, whether it was keeping the social order, unifying doctrine, eliminating heresy or gaining converts. For me, it's a pretty transparent piece of propaganda.

The links below objectively detail the origins of the Bible (1)

as well as the inconsistencies and inaccuracies (2)

They are best viewed w/ IE.

  2. Because not all believers in G-d are Christians...

    Peace.

  3. Great question.

I suppose that they look up at the stars at night and imagine that there is some great intelligence behind the whole thing.

Reading the Bible takes time. Not everyone who looks at the stars takes the time to research the Bible.

  4. Delegation.

  5. What does the bible have to do with god? God was around long before the bible. The ancient shamans knew of god or univeral spirit 1000s of years b4 the bible

  6. have you seen the book. It has like a million pages. And believers are very lazy.

  7. Because "belief" is easy.

To know (study) what we believe is not nearly as easy and takes work.

Study to show thyself approved, a workman rightly dividing the word of truth.

  8. because belief in God is older than the bible.

  9. where did you find your information that "most" people don't read their Bible??? that believe in God?? It is really hard to know God if you don't read your Bible... in fact, I myself had to read the entire chapter of Jeremiah 18 just now to explain to someone how they misinterpreted the verse they were questioning... I don't know about you, but last I checked, Jeremiah is part of the writings in the Bible....

  10. "Most of the people"?

    Who they then?

  11. There are many believers who worship God, not the Bible.

Some believers have idolatrized the Bible, and worship the Bible as if it were God.

Is reading believing? No, I don't think so.

  12. Well, just for starters, it's possible to believe in God but not be either a Christian or a Jew.  Those are the only two groups that believe the Bible.

I believe in God but I don't believe the Bible is 100% true.  I have studied it somewhat, and I find it fascinating and very valuable just on the level of literature, and for what it tells us about the history of the Judeo-Christian religions.

But people who DO believe the Bible.  You know the Bible has some inconsistencies in it.  And there are passages that can be read various different ways.  If we all just sat down and read it, and then formulated our beliefs based on what we read, we'd all believe something a little different.  That would make organized religion impossible!  For organized religion, a church, to work, people can't just read the Bible, they have to have some central teaching that puts the book in context, that provides a standard interpretation, that places emphasis on some things over others, etc.

I know Christians who know the Bible inside and out!  They have studied it for years!  I am sometimes even a little jealous of their mastery of the text, their ability to quote.  But they study the Bible in a guided way, and our interpretations often differ.  I don't have a problem with that, of course, but it just shows that two people can read the same thing and get different ideas about what it means.

  13. I ask myself that all the time too. the bible is a hard read, its hard to get the meaning behind it and most people just go by what their parents and religous leader tells them it is. all my family does that.

    btw im an atheist.

  14. because Faith has nothing to do with religion it has to do with Spirituality .

  15. so I'm assuming you personally know "most" people who believe in God?

    you don't know me.

  16. Because if they read the bible, they wouldn't believe in god anymore.

  17. Not all that believe in a higher power are Christians, hence, the bible is not a part of their worship or belief system.

    The bible is Christian.

Some non Christians can have faith without having religion.

Some Christians are only Christian by association, meaning they inherited the religion through parents and have no interest in living the Christian way of life.

Only in Christianity does the bible go hand in hand with the religion.
