Why do most people believe...?

1. That teens change their body and looks because they are pressured by the media? Most of the time, teens change their body image for themselves and confidence, but also for guys! Its shallow, but true. ( With my own experience in a small town high school, all guys go for the good looking girls.)

2. That teens are pressured to try drugs because 'everyone is doing it'. At my school the druggies dont pressure anything. For the most part they let you chose for yourself.

Please state your opinion, this is a popular topic between my friends and I wanted to know some other opinions. THanks for the opinons!

  1. I agree with you about the drug thing.  I know people who use drugs and they don't care about getting other people too, they have fun doing them themselves!  I do think though that girls look to the newest fashions in magazines and what celebs are wearing to impress others.  Especially with brand names, they annoy me the most!

  2. Most teens are pressured by the media. They want to be like their idol or "look good" like a famous person.

Again most teens are pressured to try drugs because everyone is doing it. My school some people do, some people dont. The people who dont have friends at my school pressure people, the people who do have friends dont. Its different everywhere.

  3. I'm pressured by the media to stay thin but not so much as the actual people around me and the way i feel about myself. The media has a part, for me, but not a huge one.

and i've also never been pressured by druggies. they do let people make their own decisions unless they are feeling freaked out about it and want someone else to do it so they don't feel so bad. but usually they're comfortable with themselves

  4. 1. you said they change for guys right? well where do you think guys get their definition of beauty?.... the media, adverstisments, movies, videos etc. they want to immulate in their personal lives what they see in the media and the beautiful women to go along with it. (not all guys, because ever guy is different but i know you've been watching tv w/ a guy and hear him say..."dang she look good" or "i wish so-n-so could be my girlfriend")

also... plastic surgery would not be as popular as someone above has mentioned.

some teens can decide for themselves what changes they want to make but the vast majority are easily influenced which make them easy targets for advertising execs.

    2. you said "At my school". everyone doesnt go to your school. unfortunately it does happen and because you have never experienced it first hand does not mean this problem does not exist. i've actually read questions on here from ppl talking about being pressured to have s*x and do drugs.

  5. 1. Because most teens do change their body and looks because of the media. That's why so many people who are anorexic when you ask them why they say because i want to look like so and so on this cover or whatever. And if you've ever seen that one show on MTV where they go through all this plastic surgery so they could look like someone famous. Also its like that with fashion, if you see a celebrity wearing something and then you see something like it at a store there's a really high chance you'll buy it.

    2. Again some teens are, some people will do and try anything just to "fit in".

Not all teenagers are like that, but a lot are.

  6. Society is built by men; in other words, by guys simply deciding  none but beautiful girls are good enough for them (call it media, call it general opinion, it's the same). Relating drugs, druggies pressure others by the simple fact of doing so  before them.
