When you read about them, they seem to be very nice people who are very proud of their history and heritage and think the Chengis Khan was a fantastic man. The world thinks otherwise!

  1. hy003002 demonstrates exactly why. Many confuse it with the word "mongoloid".

  2. Because Downs syndrome children used to be called Mongoloid. Also, it's sounds like mongrel.

Genghis (Temugin) was a vicious warlord. The current Mongols seem nice though.

  3. I agree with Mathilda, in that in the earlier parts of the 20th century and earlier, children with Downs Syndrome were called Mongoloid or Monogoloids.  There are still some 'old school' who use that term for Downs and usually want children with this affliction to be institutionalized.  It is a term coined for an ugly time in the treatment of children with this disability, one that people tend to shun now.

  4. Because it sounds like MONGER, MONGREL & MONGOLOID...

  5. They ignore the fact that it could be or could have been any of us or of our beloved.

  6. In Europe exists eventually a hidden memory about the cruelties during the invasion of the Mongols.

On the other hand there is the genetic handicap which is called Mongolism. It could be called Japanism as well or anything from East Asia. These people were hidden, because it was (is?) a shame to have "fool" in the family.
