  1. I live 5 miles from the ocean and was once told that the salt air and weird humidity causes the concrete to wear and breakdown faster. Don't notice asphalt drives....My back yard terrace area broke apart at 5 years and a pain to repair/replace.  Had to start from scratch - very time consuming.  My driveway was originally concrete but took that out and filled it with decorative stone and surprisingly not difficult to deal with when it snows, what little I get here.  Consult with a mason.............

  2. Concrete costs more, but will last longer.

    Get some estimates

  3. Paver bricks would let rain seep through to the ground, rather than running off into sewers.

    Better for the environment.

  4. Yes, concrete would be a good option. However if the area that is to be poured cannot take a full load (10 to 12 cu yards.) you would have to pay for an entire load. In addition the prep time for bituminous concrete (asphalt) compact the sub grade and you pave vs, Portland concrete where you compact, set forms and pour. Both will you give a durable surface if done correctly. In addition you must factor in the weight load that will be on the driveway, IE. camper, trailer, boat or mason dump truck to mentioned a few.

With what ever option you decide to use, make sure you get a reputable contractor. Good luck. I hope this helps.
