Question:

Why do most people like when it is really warm/hot?

I can't understand why it seems everyone thinks that it has to be really warm or hot for them to be comfortable. It seems that it's so much easier to make yourself warm than make yourself cool; in fact, it's simple thermodynamics that you can create heat, but you can't create cold. Then, when the sun is out and all that heat is beating all over your body, people think it's even better. Why?? I don't understand, please help! Thanks.

  1. I agree with you!  I can't stand the heat, and can never get comfortable.  To me, turning on the AC just makes the room COLD, not comfy.  My favorite weather is 65 degrees in the sunshine.  This way I am comfortable, can get warm if it's too cold out, and if I get too warm, I can get comfortable.

  2. The heat from the sun is very calming.  People feel really relaxed, and could almost fall asleep when they're warm, because external warmth relaxes the muscles.  The warmth we produce for ourselves require energy.  Like when we shiver to produce warmth, our muscles are not relaxed and it uses up our body's energy.  When a blanket, or .. sun, warms us, it requires no energy on our part and we are put into a relaxed state.

It does take energy for our body to cool off, too, which is why too hot temperatures are not comfortable.  Some people prefer the hot temperatures, though, because their internal body is naturally colder than someone else's who does not like the high heat.  Natural body temperatures can range from 97-99

  3. Well, lets see, I am from PA, so here is my observation. When it's warm you don't have to:

    1)Start/warm-up your vehicle.(and waste gas!)

    2)Wear as many clothes.

3)Pay out the a** for heating.(we have fuel oil, at about 800.00 for a full tank!)

    4)Shovel snow.

    5)Worry about pipes freezing.

    6)Road conditions.

    7)Snowstorms.

         - So I would take the warm over the cold any day! Here in PA, the winters seem longer and longer.

  4. I'd rather be too cold than too hot...
