Why do most people think that Grey Goose is such great Vodka?

To be honest, it is good, but not worth the price. Recently I drank a vodka that was a third of the cost (nasarov I think), and it was a lot better. And I really mean a lot. When you try to explain that to the average joe they say that Grey Goose is the best b/c it costs so much. But I really do not think so. What do you think.

All hype.

People think that the more a wine or spirit costs, the better it is.

Not so in all cases.

Some $10 wines drink better then some $50 bottles.

Same with Vodka.

About 2 years ago they did a famous blind test.( NY Times)

( I don't think Goose came out in the top 10).

The winner believe it or not was Smirnoff.

A lot of it probably is psychological.  If you believe you'll like something before you try it you probably will and people can be very stubborn when given alternatives.  And a lot comes down to opinion, a Vodka that's cheaper that you think is better, may not taste that way to someone else.  Personally, I dislike most all Vodka but Grey Goose I can tolerate and it's one of the only that I can.  But again, this is just my opinion I am by no means a Vodka connoisseur.

because of its reputation... word of mouth... its price (overpriced)... its cameos in rap videos (if he drinks it, it must be good)

It's all in their heads.  As someone else already said its hyped and endorsed by celebrities.  It must be good because (pick any celeb) said it was their favorite.  Or they think because it cost so much it has to be good (otherwise it would be cheap).   Novice drinkers are apt to be sucked in by slick ads and endorsements.

I personally prefer gin.   I like just regular old Tanquery.   But if you read some "expert" on gin (probably an advertising executive" will tell you "Oh its the worst" and to drink some other brand.  No thanks I like what I like.

i honistaly think because people are brought up with it and it has a reputation. alot of things are like that
