Why do most women feel that they must have children?

I mean seriously, too many young women are too obsessed with having children. I have nothing against women who want kids, but there should be more young women who never want children too.

For the new generation, won't there be anymore childfree women or does it seem that way?

There are some women who do not want to have children.  But the majority of women do want to have children, just as the majority of men do.  This is because, if we didn't, the human race would die out.  If the day ever comes where people who don't want children are in the majority, then we will be in serious trouble.

They don't think outside the box.  It is almost as though having children is compulsory.

Some woman told me that I should go to prison for getting a vasectomy and never having children.  Pretty naive thinking eh?

I do not like children, and I won't be having one - unless, of course, I somehow changed my mind for some unpredictable reason.  Children are so ...shivers...and all that dedication..I don't have the patience or personality for kids.

La Rose - I don't believe I am, to quote you, "defuncted" in any way. Kids are simply too annoying, demands too much, and I don't find them cute.

If you think its to many whats a good number for you? what percentage should worry about it. Should there be a drawing. Only the elite are allowed. Its not like men can pick up the ball and take care of this issue themselves.

it's true, a lot of women are like that.

the nasty thing is a lot of young girls try to get pregnant because they want a child so bad, something that will love them. it's kind of an attention seeker thing.

of course, not all women are like this. i am not like this.

some women just really love having children to care for.

Many women don't want children, but they have always been and will always be, the minority.  I agree that some girls seem preoccupied with it too early, but certain fundamental drives like food & s*x are simply part of human biology, there after millions of years of natural selection, which ensure the continuation of the species.

Nature has programmed ALL species to reproduce, humans are not any unique exception to this.  It's also in the best interest of all societies to encourage reproduction, because you want more workers to drive your economy,  pay taxes, fund social security, and replace the older ones.  You don't want your society shrinking and vanishing over generations.

Anthropologists could go on for days discussing how social norms and positive attitudes towards parenting and child-rearing have developed from the underlying biological advantages such activities confer.



The reason that governments give married couples tax breaks and special legal standing is to encourage it- the framework is primarily structured for raising children, which is beneficial to society.

There are plenty of women who are "childfree by choice".

Now, being 19, I haven't experienced this much myself, but somewhat older women will recall having friends and family members asking them when they're going to get married/have kids/etc.  Traditionally, that's just how things were expected to go in a relationship.

Considering that the world is quite overpopulated the way it is, the less children, the better.

Among my friends of both sexes, I'm unusual in having a child.

Make friends with more educated, career-oriented women, and I suspect you'll find rather a lot who don't want children.

I know lots of women that don't want children. Probably more than men that don't want them. However most people do want children, for various reasons - biological instinct, boredom, feeling it's the 'proper' thing to do, wanting to do 'family' stuff, wanting people who will look after them in their old age, big egos > wanting to 'pass on' their genes etc.

I think a lot of the young girls glamorize it in their minds. Have you seen the show, Baby Borrowers?  None of the participants desire to have children in the near future & they all broke up with their boy or girl friends to pursue education & careers.

I don't see what's so great about children. They are loud, accident prone, needy, expensive and somehow never cease to be sticky. I think it would be better if the government grew it's citizens in vats.

I see absolutely no point to having kids.

Why do you need to live your life through another human being?  Because that is what you are forced to do for many years.

There are many more reasons for not having them - too many to go into here.

I am 42 and have never had any maternal instincts whatsoever.  And I think I am pretty normal, and so do my friends.

However, something about young, specifically teen girls who want kids - someone needs to make them realize babies are not just cute. They require money, time, and other things.

I'm a guy&I honestly would rather adopt.

I think people just see having kids and getting married as the norm. Also I can understand that it may be hard for a women to see her friends having a baby and not feel jealous. I'm only 19, but I have already decided to not have any children. Although I almost slipped when I fell in love with a guy and felt that I would like to have his kids someday, but I came back to my senses. Women should be able to live and have fun without kids hanging off her. I think this too should be socially acceptable.

@ Tracey: You say these people are educated as if this means they know something that others don't know, but the truth is that these poor women will reach 35-40 and be virtually begging hobos and retards for their sperm so that they can have a child. Its feminist hubris to try to deny the reproductive force of  Mother Nature.
